UberStudent was released a little while ago, a new education distro built upon Ubuntu. Currently 32 in Distro Watch, the highest of any education distro.
It looks like it has great potential. I've been using it for a couple of weeks, and it's certainly well equipped. Comes with a research and note taking centric modification of Firefox, as well as all the other software you could possibly want for just about anything academic.
Despite this it doesn't feel bloated...so far.
With an account on the UberStudent website it can have pretty much full cloud integration, and it looks like they'll be doing online courses in computing etc on the website.
Anyone else had any experience with it?
Never heard of UberStudent but by the looks of it, it looks pretty promising/useful.
I saw this a couple of weeks a go and was going to switch to it, but I'm running Ubuntu anyway so I just thought I should just install the things I wanted from that distro. I went through the tour and wrote down things I'd really find useful, but the only ones were Zotero and TopShelf. As it happens Zotero doesn't have a plug-in for Chrome yet so I gave it a miss. But on the bright side they're developing a Zotero desktop app, and there's a similar program available called Mendeley.
I might install it on my netbook for college. Right now I'm running Arch.
Uberstudent had Mendeley on it too.
There's a netbook version coming out soonish I think
