Was this in America? Because [America] is a laughing joke.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA Because America is just filled with fat people that have sex with guns, kill anything not white and want to conquer the world and shit AM-I-RIUGHT?!1 [sp]I mean it's not like Britan is filled with racist people, and have also in their history killed anything not white for the purpose of placing colonies right? Britan is such a perrrrfect place.[/sp]
It doesn't take much to throw a thread off its rails. You just need someone to say something blatantly wrong, backwards, or stupid for everyone to dog pile them and start telling them how terrible they are - usually in a way that would satisfy anyone trying to stir up trouble. Refer to my first quote: What's the point of responding to something like that? It's blatantly stupid and obnoxiously crying for attention, and by responding to it you ruin the thread - sometimes permanently. I normally laugh whenever this happens (who was that one guy that went crazy trying to describe human beings as alphas and betas and setting up a special society?) but when it happens every thread and gets super predictable it has a greater chance of being annoying and a waste of time. Usually the troll gets banned, but I question why everyone who responds to a troll doesn't get banned. They are festering in the amount of suck that the troll created and only make things worse. They're just as guilty for ruining the thread as the troll - the troll merely sets the bait and people take the bait. It's a cooperative effort to ruin a thread. If someone is being racist or otherwise out of line, what's the point of trying to one-up them? They're obviously not going to contribute anything worth while to any topic so it's better to just report them and ignore their opinions. I don't know what's so incredibly hard about that but people fall for it every time. Note: This is not an opportunity to bash Pvt. Martin. He had an off-post that doesn't represent all of his posts' quality, and frankly there's way, way more examples I can cite from all kinds of people on here, including me from a long while ago.
Pvt. Martin's post made me cringe so fucking hard
To be honest some people genuinely don't realise they're feeding a troll so I don't think it's too fair.
There's a lot more wrong with that post than just the fact it's feeding a troll.
Pvt. Martin's post made me cringe so fucking hard
While I feel bad for quoting Pvt. Martin and while I don't think he's a normally bad poster (afaik), I thought this was the perfect example of how to feed a troll. I'd personally enjoy if people didn't bag on him or anything. Just let it be - it happened and I think he understands what went wrong.
To be honest some people genuinely don't realise they're feeding a troll so I don't think it's too fair.
What's the way we normally teach others the rules of the forum? We ban them. My definition of "trolls" has escaped its original definition. In my opinion, a troll doesn't have to have be trying to stir controversy with false opinions - they can be flat out stupid people that ruin a thread. It doesn't matter if someone is legitimately xenophobic with a disgusting opinion - if they are presenting their thoughts with a terrible tone, terrible explanation (if at all), and inhibit a functioning definition they no longer warrant a response. For instance, looking at Nyaaaa, he wasn't going to change his opinion. He presented himself as being hellbent against America and no one was going to change that. His posts were repetitive and illogical. These are all signs that he's not worth talking to. Now, I'm not saying that having a radical opinion is bad. I'm saying that presenting a terrible opinion terribly in a way that will prevent the previously meaningful discussion is part of the problem, and completing the cycle of suck by responding terribly is the other part of the problem. People sometimes have misconceptions that can be cleared up in a respectful way that puts both people on the same page, but it has to be assumed that the person is even able to change or understand in a civil manner.
Perhaps putting this in general discussions would have been better.
To be honest some people genuinely don't realise they're feeding a troll so I don't think it's too fair.
I don't know. It seems pretty obvious when they're posting something like that and only have like 12 posts (which seems like the case for most "trolls").

IT SUCKS
For some reason that prompted me not to post in there, haha. I clearly wasn't thinking.
once you try and get really edgy super duper offended like Pvt. Martin you're stepping into heavy shitposting territory.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The only way to stop shitposting is to perma ban everyone and lock registration.
I said I was sorry. I'll snip the posts if you guys want, don't fucking ban me, please.
I said I was sorry. If you wanna snip your stuff it's fine, but I'm not looking to attack you. I'm trying to explain myself and it works as an example.
