Hey y'all,
I purchased an alienware aurora in September of 2010... I'm highly interested in upgrading my cpu from a CORE i7 920 @ 2.67 to something much beefier... Would a Intel Core i7-2600 Processor 3.4GHz 8 MB Cache Socket LGA1155 work? (I have supped up cooling if that helps).... Ram is about the only thing ive ever changed before on my own... Would i be able to install it myself? Could i drop it off at fry's, bestbuy or some other electronic retailer? I'm only really software savy... not hardware
Current Specs:
MS Windows 7
CORE i7 920 @ 2.67
6 GB of RAM
ATI RADEON HD 5800 Series
I mainly do flight sim... gmod... gta, Simulator kinda games is a cpu upgrade what i need?
If you now of any good processors as well i'm willing to spend up to 300-400 dollars on one :)
Thank you, :)
just overclock it... it's still a great CPU i7 2600k is a waste most games don't even use the full potential of it.
No, the 920 is a 1366 socket. You'd either buy a new motherboard or an i7 970. Just get a 2500K and a new motherboard.
I've tried looking into overclocking... Didn't really understand it that well but i'll try again.
CPU is fine for any game, you need a better videocard to run games better. I assume you have a 5850 - gte a GTX 560 Ti or better, such as a GTX 570.
My computer still can't run full potential on games like gta.... Is there something else? I already have 1 GB of video ram... I don't even use all of it in GTA

is there a way to I.D. what type my graphics card is?
Video RAM doesn't mean anything (well, it's not much.) You just need a stronger GPU, not more Video RAM. You could use something like Speccy to see your videocard.

Meh alienware.
Download this and post a screenshot of the results:

And that cpu is alreaddy overkill, no need to upgrade it.
Your PC will easily run all source games on max.
Get a new GPU and you will be fine.
