• I was in a mental hospital's partial program for a month, ask me shit.

I've been wanting to talk to someone after finally getting out of the local mental hospital's partial program (because that's what it took to get some fucking antidepressants), ask me shit. Edit: The program was really poorly set up and the staff were fucking horrible and unprofessional, and occasionally just fucking incompetent to the point where it legitimately fucking amazed me they still had their jobs, or that they GOT jobs in the field of mental healthcare in the first place. I didn't even experience the worst bit of their shit, a few friends told me wonderful stories of horribly handled situations that I could classify as horror stories.
what's a partial program?
If you don't mind me asking. What do you think has caused your depression?
how was the food
what's a partial program?
i think it means outpatient (coming and going for therapy, rather than staying) Did they give you a high dose of some other med that they give to basically every other patient? like seroquel? Usually they do this to quickly quell whatever brought the patient to hospitalization in the first place. it takes months to taper off of, and the withdrawal symptoms can last beyond that. if you're taking a SSRI anti-depressant, think carefully about raising its dose, the withdrawal symptoms can be long lasting and debilitating .
How is your mental health now? An what was it beforehand.
If you don't mind me asking. What do you think has caused your depression?
It really had to do with the fact that a few months ago, I got pretty sick, and ended up missing about a month or two of school, and this set my grades all the way back to F's in every class, as well as having literally 2 months of AP work to have to catch up on VERY QUICKLY. I felt hopeless as hell, and at one point kinda wanted to die, so as soon as that thought came into my head, I decided I should go try to get it fixed before it gets worse. [editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
how was the food
Better than I expected, but I expected very little. It was a bit bitter than school food, but really, all institutional food is kind of the same. [editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
How is your mental health now? I can think a lot more clearly now.

Good to hear you feel better, I know how it feels to finally see a much, much brighter day and fianlly be able to use your mind to focus rather than being cluttered. It's a great feeling.

[editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
i think it means outpatient (coming and going for therapy, rather than staying)
Yeah, sorry I worded that poorly. Basically, it's a program that people would go to from about 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM instead of going to school. [editline]11th March 2014[/editline] Today is my first day finally able to go back to school, it feels great to finally be progressing again.
It's good to hear you're feeling better now. Either way, just look ahead, the bad times can't last forever. Remember, into each life some rain must fall, but someday the sun will shine.. A bit corny but it's true!

By the way, while I'm on this topic, I fucking ended up listening to this song quite a lot throughout my time there, it helped a lot. What are your plans after finishing school?
Were the nurses hot?
What are your plans after finishing school?
To get on to college first, but once I finish that? Either going into some kind of game design, acting, or really any kind of writing (maybe even the dreaded journalism if it comes down to it). [editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
Were the nurses hot?
Noooope. Oh god nope.
Damn. And, I'm on 6+ years of depression. Props to you for dealing with it so early. Wish I had had the same mentality. Would you have done it any differently knowing that the place was very poorly operated? What made you want to go to a mental hospital as opposed to a counselor/therapist?
Made any new friends there?
Made any new friends there?
I made a couple of them, yeah, and I made sure to abide by the GOLDEN rule: Never pick up chicks in a mental hospital. [editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
Damn. What made me go there though, was that I had immediate thoughts of dying and that freaked me the fuck out, so I wanted to go all out before it got any worse, and I'm glad I did.
How is an outpatient program at a mental hospital different than just going to see a psychiatrist? I mean when I saw a psychiatrist I had to go to a mental hospital too, but that's just because that's where his office was. I assume your thing was different.
Better than I expected, but I expected very little. It was a bit bitter than school food, but really, all institutional food is kind of the same.
could you give some examples

Honestly, I think the entire point of it is to get patients out of school so they could focus on treatment, although they barely did anything for treatment. A good 2 hours of each day I was there was spent doing LITERALLY NOTHING in a central waiting room while waiting for various ineffectual therapies.
Were the nurses hot?
your avatar fits so well with that question...
could you give some examples
The "bitter" thing was a typo, I meant to say better. It had some variety, like porkchops with gravy one day, some kind of chinese thing another day, but it wasn't very good. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. It was pretty bland honestly, but I don't expect institutional food to be incredible, it serves a purpose: To provide fuel.

And we're short enough on doctors (and this is more obvious in some fields of medicine than others) that it's hard to provide the level of individual patient attention that we have to. That said, I commiserate with you on your illness, and I hope you got some improvement out of it. Could you tell me something about these various therapies they tried out on you?
Did they give you ECT

I have a buddy who went in for depression after his girlfriend of 3 years broke up with him and he met his current wife there.

I could have been in and out in two weeks tops. [editline]13th March 2014[/editline]
Well, you know what they say about birds of the same feather.......
One of the friends I made there (who has been in and out of the hospital for a few years) once decided to meet up with someone she met in the program outside of it. He beat the shit out of her and stabbed her in the chest. To clarify, this wasn't an "over a long time" sort of thing. Like, the second they met up, it happened. She's alive, he's in jail, and she laughs about the whole thing and tells people "Lifehack: Don't get stabbed". A quote from her about it, "I'd show you the scar, but the staff would think I'm flashing you my tits". So yeah, that's why you don't wanna pick up chicks/guys at a mental hospital.
Did you see where someone threw the shower room console through the window and escaped?
Shit?
