You can say what you want about facebook, but that's a damn impressive number.
How many of those are fake/duplicate accounts though I wonder.

Even if 50% of the accounts are fakes, it's still a damn impressive number.
That's a huge accomplishment.

wow 42% in the Oceania area, Australia has a population of 24 million, I think nearly half the population has a facebook account that's pretty neato
I love how all the comments on the article are either crying about how Facebook users 'have no lives' or 'don't know anybody in real life' and that Facebook is 'on the way out'
99% of the people on my friends list are people I know. The only people I know who regularly add random folks are those stupid 'LIKE IF YOU AGREE' people, and they're a tiny minority.
I don't know why some people are so opposed to social networking, mainly people on 4chan and facepunch
maybe it's because they have [sp]no friends?[/sp]
Then again I can see benefits of not having it
just made one a week or so ago, i like it.

Most of the people I know whom have an account actually have about five-ten accounts.
And i'm pretty sure this also counts inactive accounts, which there are also a boatload of.
Why the hell have your friends got 5-10 accounts? I don't know a single person on my 350+ friends list that has more than one...
Facebook now has more than one billion people using it every month, the company has said.
No, this does not count inactive accounts.
That's quite amazing. I'd say everyone in the 11-25 age group in my country has one, maybe half of the people between 25-40 or something like that, so that sounds about right.
Facebook is a powerful tool. And I only have one account, not 5 to 10....
I use Facebook all the time and it's amazing how much it's expanded, what with all the apps they've made for smartphones, and their userbase. It's incredible

I'd say it's gone for worse, with integration to sites and games and all sorts of other shit turning it into a forced media aggregator rather than a way to share stuff you're thinking about or pictures you took or who you're with. I know all of this can be solved by hiding everything and unfriending people but I like to think that if people weren't constantly doing that stuff they'd share more original stuff.
Also, I dislike the current layout.

Still, this is only active users:

do "pages" count as users? Like say the Dr. Pepper page, or one of those stupid meme tumblr things?

Nope.
Impressive number, but I bet a good number of them are underage kids.
Was anybody else surprised that South America has the third highest?
Wow, pretty impressive.
