Just looking for some insight on a few parts that I want to upgrade on my computer.
I have a Dell Dimension 4700 stock case and want a new motherboard/CPU. Would I be better off getting a case for around $100 like the Antec 900, or keeping this one? I also figure I am going to need a new PSU. Since my CD drive is PATA, do the current PSUs come with any PATA slots or just SATA slots? Any information would be appreciated.
The Dimension 4700 has an ATX motherboard, so you could upgrade it. If it were me though, I would ditch the old case and just spring for a new one. I've never owned a 4700, but it looks awful cramped in there.
As for power supplies, PATA uses a molex power connector. Those are still on every power supply I've ever seen, since that's what case fans use as well.
Thanks. And yes, the case is quite cramped, so I am definitely leaning towards getting a new one. One more question, I am not that familiar with motherboards/CPUs, and would I just simply be able to take out my current motherboard with the CPU attached and be able to connect the fan to the a new case? The 4700 case has a fan connected to the CPU right now.
Bump.
Quick question, I have been reading how GPUs like the 9800gtx use 2x PCI Express connectors. Does this mean my PSU would need 2x PCI Express connectors or are the ones on the card just adapters?
