Games where you can fight between kingdoms of your control - Any good ones?

So since I installed some free2play generic castle builder on my mobile phone, I've grown addicted to the idea of it.
I really like the idea of controlling a major empire against others nearby, but I can't find a decent game with it.
Not so much the idea of being in the fight itself, but more the part of being in power and controlling an area.
Lately I have looked into MMO's like Black Desert Online, as the possibility is there to make a guild and conquer a castle,
Something that would also be great (imo) would be Age of Empire III multiplayer, but it's seemed dead whenever I've checked.
Hell I have looked into Rust a few times too, was decent 'till my desktop died and my laptop couldn't play it.
Any recommendations?
If you're into non-action then Crusader Kings. If you want action then Mount and Blade.
The act of conquering territory and holding it - M&B, no contest. You start as ONE man, you hire some peasants. A couple of frustrating dozens of hours later: you're a king with your kingdom. Nothing is skipped in-between. Magical game.
Seven kingdoms 1 was an alright game, It's pretty boring late game but its got some great game mechanics.
Mount and Blade actually looks pretty amazing, but I was hoping for something multiplayer as PvE just doesn't cut it for me anymore and I'd like the PvP deal

Mount and Blade has multiplayer [sp]battles[/sp]
another actiony game with kingdom building (but as a minor focus) is Dynasty Warriors 8 and NEXT but not so much building as it is gathering enough resources and support
you'll still have to wade through all the cannon fodder on your own, and even then, NEXT is only on the Vita
The Stronghold series may be up your alley; especially Crusader, which expanded the conquering aspect where the others were focused almost exclusively on defense.
Total War?
