i was looking at the 5670, but a lot of people hate it. is there a better choice?
Save up some more money before buying a GPU. Seriously.
Are you using the card for gaming, I presume. If so, it's not bad - but it won't max much out.
Maybe medium-high settings at 720p. My friend used a 5570 for a while, and it wasn't a bad card.
You get what you pay for in GPU's most of the time. IMO I would save up a little more. Even another 40$ would get you a ton more. Its not worth buying a GPU that already mostly out of date.
Second hand one maybe.
Save up for a 5770, thats about the first medium end gpu in the lineup.
Good price/performance ratio too.
Tom's Hardware puts out a new article like this every month: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-performance-radeon-geforce,3018.html
Personally, I would squeeze another $30-40 out of the budget to get a 6770.
Yeah, I'd go with a 5770 or a 6770.
I'm running with a 5770 right now, love it.
The 5670/6670 is better than both of those cards.
But the OP should really save up a little more ant at least get a 5770/6770
I wanted a a $60-70 gpu too so I went with the 5570.
99.99$ with weekend special + rebate:

Which means you basically have to buy it tomorrow and then wait bloody forever for the rebate crap.
But it's the cheapest option.
I may be able to get a 5770 around Christmas time... Would it still be worth it in that long of a wait?
They might have something new out in Christmas, which will drop the price of older GPUs.
Make a thread around Christmas.
Also, I'd like to point out the irony that you're skimping on a GPU while posting from an iOS device.
I got this for free. :v
I don't have a working computer ATM. Just an iPod touch.
