(I'm already on socket 775 but I just change my motherboard and keep my RAM DDR2) Intel Quad Q9550 (250€) Scythe Mugen II (40€) Motherboard MSI P45T-C51 (65€) Gainward GTX 460 1024MB Golden Sample Goes Like Hell (250€) Fractal Design Define R2 Black Pearl (90€) Antec TruePower New - 650W (95€) Optiarc AD-7240S (23€) Just want to know if everything is okay.
Yeah it's good
Get a i5 750, and change the RAM too.
Don't get the Gainward gtx460 GLH, they have the same problem as Palit's GTX's aka missing VRM heatsink, I'd recommend getting the MSI Cyclone 1gb.

Yeah, I know, but the i5 750 is cheaper and performs better.
I imagine hes trying to save money on his motherboard and RAM, and a new set of RAM would set him back about £100 (country dependant) and a compliant mobo will cost him more too. [editline]10:19PM[/editline] For 4gb anyway
Get a i5 750, and change the RAM too.
i5 750/i5 760: 200-220€ 1156 motherboard: 105€ minimum DDR3 RAM (4GB): 110€ Even if the processor is less expensive, you must count the motherboard and RAM, which is too expensive for me. [editline]12:05AM[/editline] And it's not like every Gainward model have a missing VRM heatsink, no?
Didn't you buy a new mobo anyway? :psyduck:
And it's not like every Gainward model have a missing VRM heatsink, no?
Well unfortunately every(?) Palit/Gainward GTX460 is missing the heatsink and that makes that card a bit louder than other manufacturer's cards. And they sent cards with the heatsinks only to some sites(guru3d etc.) which renders the tests pretty useless since theyre not done on retail cards.
"Update Wednesday 14th July 2010 - We noticed some reports in our forums that batches of the Palit GeForce GTX 460 is missing the VRM heatsink. As a result the card can heat up and the cooling will try to compensate by spinning way harder and this it makes the product very loud. Here's how you can identify the issue: If you purchased a Palit GeForce GTX 460 Sonic Platinum edition graphics card, please check if that black heatsink is missing. If it is to loud for you, we recommend you to RMA the product or contact Palit directly. Looks like Palit has send out better samples to the press then they are offering in etail."
And it seems that they're not even replacing the cards, instead they send a bios update that fixes the fan autospeed.
It seems the sample we received was an enigneering sample and that the final e-tail samples indeed ships without the VRM heatsink. Several things are being done now: * Next week we'll receive the final sample and look into the heat / noise level tests again. * I was very clear about this request: Palit will make a statement likely early next week on what exactly happened and what went wrong. * A new BIOS is to be released for the Sonic Platinum editions cards that (hopefully) will help out with heat and noise levels So they acknowledge that we received an early sample that differs from the final product. Hopefully the new BIOS will help out with the noise levels and as soon as it arrives we'll retest the actual final product on heat and noise levels. It's kind of worth it to change the ram, so that you will be able to change to some DDR3 socket
If someone is able to give me 150€, maybe, but otherwise no. [editline]11:15AM[/editline]
oh shit
Oh shit. So I just have to wait if they deliver others GTX 460 cards in my country. But you are really sure Gainward have the same problem ? (Mind you, Palit/Gainward cards are the same on apparence)
But you are really sure Gainward have the same problem ? (Mind you, Palit/Gainward cards are the same on apparence)
Yeah they both have the same problem as theyre developed by the same company.

Unless I have my Sharkoon coolers, shit will be pretty bad on my case. [editline]03:30PM[/editline] I prefer to wait for another GTX 460 card and stick with my 9500GT.
