My PSP slim started to suddenly make a clicking sound when a UMD was inserted. It wouldnt read the UMD at all and just kept clicking. Now it makes no noise but still does not read the UMD. Any advice?
Sounds like a broken UMD drive. Happened to my phat a few years ago.
I've managed to fix this happening before by playing with the laser's rail. Apparently it somehow got misaligned, and the clicking sound was the laser popping in and out of the rail threads due to the rail trying to push the laser too far.
A possible reason it doesn't make noise anymore is that eventually the laser got stuck outside of the rail.
If you aren't comfortable messing with it yourself, and your warranty is over, buy a new drive. They aren't too hard to replace.
The first thing that always breaks in the PSP is the UMD disk drive tray
