GFWL won't let me connect - yet my Internet is fine and dandy.

It's pretty terrible. I hate GFWL with a burning passion because of stuff like this (and updates failing etc).
I have tried disabling my firewall and Avast!, that does nothing, so it's not like I have to add an exception or open a port in my firewall or anything like that.

This is what I get when I go to "Network Status" after being denied from connecting to LIVE.
I don't have a router at all. I just have a modem which I plug into, I have Comcast if that matters. Thus the standard "open ports on your router" thing doesn't apply to me (I don't think).
I've looked through the support website, and none of that stuff has worked or been relevant to my situation.
If I'm on the internet posting on a forum right now, steam working fine, xfire working fine, other games multiplayer working fine, why is GFWL giving me such a hassle?
Did you try re-installing GFWL?
(To be honest, GFWL is a piece of horrid shit and I would never use it)
yeah. i've tried that quite a lot.
Try uninstalling your AV.

Disabling doesn't always disable it completely.
I'll try it, but I don't think that's my problem. I don't have a router, I only have a modem.
I don't think I have uPnP support - you can enable that through a router but I don't have one.

I think LIVE requires you to have a router, which is dumb.
I hate this program.
To be honest, GFWL is a complete piece of crap. I had the same problem, try disabling the firewall.

Oh wait, sorry.
On a side note, does anyone know why I have so many svchost.exe running?

I uninstalled Avast. I am about to turn off the Windows Firewall, and try running the game one more time.
I double checked my network drivers. I tried enabling uPnP manually through My Computer > Manage.
If this doesn't work I'm going to rage.

Yeah. Didn't work. Firewall has nothing to do with it, AV had nothing to do with it. Drivers have nothing to do with it.
The thing is, it worked before. When I bought GTAIV with a friend, it worked fine at his house (not on my setup, he has a router and it worked. Later on I went over there again and it didn't work, it worked for him on WiFi but not for me using a router [I believe he has a router]). It worked at my house playing RFG and DoW2, although it has always been shoddy of a program, it has never just flat out denied me connectivity.
I don't know whether it's because of a recent GFWL update, or something changing software wise in my computer, but it's not the fault of the hardware, since even in a different hardware setup the problem persisted.
So yeah, does anyone know if GFWL has had a recent update which messed with network shit or connectivity? Or can anyone think of any program that would be messing up GFWL connection?

Actually it could be a hardware deal, since he was on WiFi.
Is anyone here not on WiFi having no trouble connecting to Live?
If so, are you running on a router? Am I the only person in the world just running on a modem without a router? (I only have one computer in my house).
Router should have nothing to do with it; Try uninstalling your NIC in the devices manager, maybe, and restarting. Windows will reinstall the drivers and stuff. OR maybe find the real drivers for the NIC if you're using generic ones that windows installed.
I don't know what the NIC is, but if you mean my nForce Ethernet under Network Adapters, I have already updated the drivers, etc.
I have a similar problem. I can't start it up at all from the start menu, and I can't download my profile while in DiRT 2 since it stops half way through.
When I start it from the start menu, it says I do not have a internet connection.
I can start it, but when I try to log into the Marketplace, it says my shit can't be validated, but it works on the website.
By now I've tried pretty much everything, do you guys think calling support would do anything for me?
Go for it.I had the same problem a while back. I uninstalled RF:G and came back to it and it was gone. The strange thing is that Wh40K:Dawn of War 2 was able to get a connection.
Not likely seeing as my m8s could connect just fine over wifi while I couldn't.
