• Do you reckon a CX500 will pull a Intel Core i5-4690K + 7850?

Hello. Looking to upgrade the mobo and CPU in this rig but I'm on a tight budget this month and wont be able to grab a better powersupply and I'm a bit worried that it might not pull it. Well aware that the 7850 is a hefty bottleneck, this rig isn't for videogames. Do you think it'll manage, or should I hold off until I can afford a better powersupply as well?
Yeah, you'll be fine wattage wise until you can get something a bit higher quality.
You could still pull that on a 400 watt PSU.
Alright, thank you for the quick replies. I'll go pick the stuff up later today.
It's set up and running well, even under load. Not sure why the RAM is listed as 666MHz, pretty sure these are 1600 sticks but maybe it's just a visual error. Not sure how far I can take it with OCing but I would imagine the only way to find out is to give it a try. Thanks again for the help guys.
Try activating XMP profile in the BIOS, sometimes doesn't do it.
Yeah, that's a bit odd. The RAM is running at 1333 actually, your motherboard may have defaulted to that speed.
Isn't that because it's DDR, meaning Speccy reads only half the actual speed for reasons I cba to look up atm.
Isn't that because it's DDR, meaning Speccy reads only half the actual speed for reasons I cba to look up atm.
Because DDR stands for double data rate. The actual rate is twice what speccy reports.

My main complaint is your unit of choice; the CX500. The CX and CXM series have build quality issues that cause significant failure rates. Your unit has a 3 year warranty. If it fails and you're able to RMA it then you can resell the unit as refurbished or new depending on what they send back as a replacement. The cash made from selling it can go towards a higher quality PSU.
I should have expanded on my last post. If you haven't bought the CX500 yet then get this $50 unit instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-power-supply-capstone450 If you have bought the CX500 then I recommend for you to return it if you're able to. Your system wont pull more than around 320w. The 450w I listed is a bit more than needed for your current system but it's still acceptable for both the quality and price.
If you haven't ordered and are able to ASAP, get this
