At least it won't bend in your pocket since pockets aren't part of the equation.
Sounds fragile,
If I were to buy a device, I want to know of it won't break if I drop it...
So, where's the drop test Apple? Microsoft isn't afraid to live on stage

Wait, MS did a drop test of the Surface on stage? That's ballsy

Why would you break a product on stage?
I, too, want to buy a device so god damn thin and fragile I have to put the thickest case I can find on the internet so it doesn't bend and shatter at any occasion.
I miss how older electronics were bulkier and sturdier. It really says something when we have more than one smartphones bending in our pockets.

i'm sorry for your inability to not drop tablets

I can see where they're coming from when making tablets (not phones, those should be way bulkier than what we have now) thin and light, I have a TF300TG, it's only 600 grams yet holding it gets tiring real fast, so the lighter the better I guess
tablets are something meant to be carried around as secondary computing devices (or often primary in 2014). lighter is always better.

it also objectively (to a degree) makes it easier to hold when it's thinner.

That was a little tense to watch
Now it will fly further than ever
iBend

Yeah, now you just have to have it outside on a windy day for it to bend.
They really don't learn do they?
thinner doesn't mean better you know
What is the point?
More fragile, and smaller battery, for??????

Yes but how light does it right have to be? Was weight really that much of a problem?
The real question is: Will it Bend?

Apple Defense Force has arrived
Why is thin even a marketable feature? As long as a tablet isn't thicker than an inch, it will be fine. I don't see a few millimeters or centimeters being a critical difference at all.

A whole centimetre is a HUGE difference, but at this point it's diminishing return trying to make them any thinner than 6-7mm

Oh fuck no, at the very least not with the materials apple uses. You ever held the iphone 6 ? That alluminum has like, no stitching, which is very cool and admirable. But with that material choice I just feel like that phone would slip out of my hands eventually as I fumble with it.
I think quite a few android phones get it the best, thin enough to hold easily, but thick enough to be sturdy and to hold a good battery.
i'm sorry for your inability to not drop tablets
So you've never dropped something on accident ever?
i'm sorry for your inability to not drop tablets
I'm good enough with my hands not to drop random shit that I'm holding but sometimes it just happens. Nudging stuff off a table or having a very temporary case of butter fingers are things that happen to literally everyone and you should keep that in mind when selling such an expensive device.
I've dropped my iPhone probably a total of like five times ever and I've owned it for four years now. I'm glad I've put it in an actual thick case because it's still pristine, glass and frame included. Meanwhile I see people carrying their phones naked or with shitty cases and because of how flimsy the damn things are a single drop will fracture the entire screen.
i'm sorry for your inability to not drop tablets
are you always cynical? people don't drop things on purpose. If a device is too light and/or thin, people are going to drop it way more often than if it were heavy and thick. Grip is a thing, you know. You'll rarely see people find something as thin as this easier to hold. Ever.
To me, "thin" just indicates piss poor battery life and a structurally weak design.
Both of Apple's specialties.
i'm sorry for your inability to not drop tablets
I don't use a case for my phone because I have confidence that I won't drop the thing, but a machine should be able to withstand a drop as well without immediately breaking.
A (expensive) tablet shouldn't be fragile and prone to breaking, whether you're the kind of guy who drops stuff or not. I don't think the iPad is necessarily worse off than many other tablets, though.
