There isn't a thread about it in games discussion and I am not a fan of the series. I have really only ever seen the game in passing. It always looked really cool but I was always passing by it to buy a new release. Now it's ten years later and there are literally no good modern mech games out there. I was a big fan of mech warrior, even the one that came out on Xbox. I absolutely love big giant clunky mech action, but there hasn't been a release of a decent title in so long (for all intents and purposes those fast paced "mech" games like zone of the enders aren't really mech games and more like someone in an exosuit). Not to mention I do not own a computer, so yes, there are plenty of good modern mech games out there, just my only means of gaming is a ps3 So basically I love big clunky mech on mech action with salvos flying everywhere, shit blowing up all over the place, full on wanton destruction from a weapons platform with legs. I love lots of mechs to choose from with loads of parts and customization. I love having mounted rocket pods and various other incredibly destructive weapons at my disposal. I'm not looking for a modern mech warrior, just something like it. Big bombastic lumbering battles with explosions going on everywhere. Is this game for me?
If you enjoy getting bombblasted in the back of the head with donkeypunchers that do 60k damage and instakills you then this is the game for you. Multiplayer for the most part is pretty icky, it's got terrible match-making, and general connections issues. You won't be really enjoying single-player as much because this is a more multiplayer focused Armored core game. I own it because I'm a huge armored core fanboy, but there's a ton of stuff to be disappointed about in this one. If you're new to the series, I'm still questioning whether you'll like it or not because the general set up of things is pretty bad. It's not like any of its previous games (aside from armored core 5) in terms of playability, and enjoyment.
I loved Mech Warrior Mercenaries. I tried playing a couple Armored Core games and didnt enjoy them. I wonder if I could still find my copy of mercenaries...
For it's current price, I wouldn't bother. If it were say, twenty-five to thirty dollars, I'd say go for it.
I'll wait for the price to go down. Which I bet will be thirty by christmas [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] Actually I've never played an armored core game before... And from looking at how exactly mechs are customized and such... It really makes me want to play. I think the biggest thing would be the amount of content in the game and single player replay-ability. It's isn't the kind of game I play for multiplayer How dynamic are the missions? How many of them are there? Is there a skirmish mode of some sort? [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] Honestly it's really hard to wait for the new releases that come out in literally weeks when you don't have a PC.
There really isn't any kind of skirmish mode for single-player, the the missions aren't exactly dynamic. It's typically "Kill X helicopters, and X tanks," or "X armored cores". The content for its campaign includes ten story missions, in between these story missions are micro-missions which you do basically the above. Customization is probably the most limited I've seen in the armored core series. If you're really wanting to get it- get it, but don't expect to be playing it for more than about a month.
Get a PS2 cheap and buy Armored Core: Nexus or Silent Line (warning: there's a big jump between control schemes on those two games.)
Already have a ps2. Plus those games are dated. I'm looking for a modern mech game
You're kinda out of luck unless you go for Hawken or something.
Hawken's also terrible. [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] As far as customization goes.
What the fuck happened that made mechs so unpopular. I mean... They're giant robots covered in all manners of weapons pods, rail guns, lasers... Is that not cool to anyone? If it is then anyone can eat a bag of dicks. I'm just going to gamefly this game after I buy gta off of it. [editline]14th October 2013[/editline] What happened to that new mech warrior game?
The MMO or the fangame? The former is a stinking pile of shit from what I hear. And mechs are a niche I guess (Somehow).
[QUOTE=NeoSeeker;42514920]What the fuck happened that made mechs so unpopular.[/QUOTE] It's basically grouped in with Dinosaur games at this point. Either nobody is making them or nobody is making them well.
The first full AC game I played was For Answer. I had played some others before, but never really got into them because I had no idea what I was doing. I would recommend For Answer for it's customization. The scenery in the game is pretty bland and be careful if you decide to play online. Most people like to use that game-breaking speed build and play with "swords only".
I hope From makes VI with good tiered matchmaking, and actually make it look good :v:
[QUOTE=yellowoboe;42515403]It's basically grouped in with Dinosaur games at this point. Either nobody is making them or nobody is making them well.[/QUOTE] Dinosaur games... Like Turok and that shit Jurassic park game? Or games you play as a dinosaur? Cause I can see how that's unappealing.. But these are giant exosuit a covered in weapons. I mean there's so much potential especially considering all this next gen game. Someone need to make a freeroaming RPG with the same mech mechanics as mech assault. As in you can get out of your mech and walk around. And the on foot combat wouldn't just be an afterthought. You can be just as effective against mechs on foot. You could have an entire arsenal of bombs, assault weapons, explosive launchers, exo suits... And it's set on a giant island full of population, cities and fully destructible and fully enterable buildings. And you control your own faction you build up and have deep control over. You can establish bases anywhere and factions will establish bases too in predetermined positions, the more experienced the faction is the better the placement of the bases. And factions will try to either take or destroy your and other factions bases. the other factions on the island who you can ally with or destroy depending upon your actions in the game and the general attitude you give off and the prejudices you may have other factions see. like if you... kill every person with cybernetics or other artificial parts the transhumanist faction will hate you for killing cyborgs. In the end the main objective is to take every city on the island, or wipe everyone out. Fully destructible and enter able buildings. Just imagine. You're in the middle of a city, in a battle and your mech is critical after a skirmish and enemies are creeping up on you. You eject and self destruct, the small nuclear blast leveling the entire block. You just barely are able to land on top of a partially collapsed building, and a mech spots you in the distance as troops storm up 27 flights of stairs to blow you away. Just as they reach your floor you detonate explosives you set at the top of the stairwell, collapsing the entire 27 flights and battalion of soldiers occupying it. Then the wall explodes. The mech that saw you earlier has arrived, and the pilot is peering at you through a hole in the wall he just made. Unlucky for him he's in a light mech with only light ballistic glass shielding the cockpit and you just so happen to have a specialized handcannon you designed yourself. With armor busting incendiary functionality (blows through blast shield and explodes in flames in the cockpit.) As the pilot fumbles for the controls to eject accidentally hits the PA button. His screams of pain echo through the streets, then screams in frustration as the eject malfunctions. Three normal shots, each followed by a grunt, the last by a raspy sigh, echo again through the PA system, now half static from the damage the cockpit sustained. You leap from the building onto the chassis and find that the mech itself is still functional, although barely due to the fire damage sustained n the cockpit. An explosion rings out behind you. You missed an emergency stairwell and troops just breeched the room you were in. As a squad of troops rushes into the blown out section of the skyscraper, shots ricocheting off the mech you just boarded. You quickly admire your accuracy as shown by the original pilots wounds, then throw the husk of a carcass out of the half melted half falling apart cockpit and manning it in one motion. After a brief struggle you manage to throw the mech into full reverse before the squad has a chance to get in range. Then you briefly reflect upon the situation, and fire the last pod of rockets into the building, more screams echo out on their own as the building starts to crumble. Now concerned more with their own safety the squad half panics and half rushes through either the back or desperately through the opening blasted into the 27th floor. The building fails finally to support its own weight as you throw the mech into full throttle and gun the boosters over the building you once sought refuge in, enjoying a birds eye view of the remains of the building and opposition crush itself. [editline]14th October 2013[/editline] Can someone give me a development team please? And funding.
Try the previous games, AC4 and AC4A. It's even more exaggerated than the other AC games, but it still holds close to the previous armored core games as opposed to this GOD awful ACV and ACVV stuff. The combat is unreal in terms of how fast paced it is, and it appeals to those who like their mechs more tank-ish or to those who like them fast and unreal, and two-legged. All classes are quite balanced too.
[QUOTE=NeoSeeker;42518331]ideas[/QUOTE] Titanfall is the closest you're gonna get for the foreseeable future.
Fuck that. M gonna make that game one day
Again titanfall looks like the only reason to get an xbone Even then by then I'll have a PC. So I guess I'll just get titanfall like you said. And hope to god it doesn't suck ass. Okay I'm seriously sorry I did that, didn't know auto merge is such a bitch. Either way if I ever get my hands on a capable dev team it's gonna be called foodstuffs studios. So if you ever see a way to ambitious for its own good mech game come out in the next ten years by "Foodstuffs studios"... That's me. Na I'm gonna make at least three games, at least one successful before I would start. Hopefully titanfall is good enough so I won't have to do that.
