• How to get someone to go to the doctor

My dad has had some lingering health issues from when we all had the flu right after Christmas, but he won't go the doctor, he is very introverted with probable social anxiety and distrusts doctors as well as possible claustrophobia from a cat scan in the past. Any help would be appreciated.
Force him, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. Dont just dump him with the doctor, stay with him to make sure he's getting the help he needs. Or get the doctor to come to him.

We all want him to go but he it's really hard to get him out of the house. (Last time he was out of the house for an extended period was a 2016 trip to Atlanta, no idea why he's like this) edit: besides (usually) the yearly christmas party with the family, both mom and dad aren't the healthiest, are smokers and refuse to vape because of the flavor (mom quit while pregnant though)
Be blunt, get him to the doctor what ever it takes.

You should tell your dad that he shouldn't "wait" the sickness out and hope for the better. If it isn't too pricey, call the ambulance and get them to to a checkup on him. Maybe it's better for him to get told personally by them to get his ass to the doctor.
the hot and cold at the same time deal is a common symptom of generalized anxiety disorder, so I wouldn't worry too much about that if you already think he has an anxiety disorder. the combination of a cough and possible mini-strokes thing is more concerning to me. mini-strokes (or transient ischemic attacks) are caused by a lack of oxygen in the brain. when he coughs, is he coughing up a lot of phlegm, and is it light in color or dark in color? if so, and especially if it's dark in color, I'd guess he's got early stage COPD. COPD is nasty stuff, and it only gets worse. there's no cure for COPD (other than a lung transplant), but if he stops smoking and starts on bronchodilators then he could easily live a long and happy life. when he quits smoking, he'll be cranky for a while, and then about 2 weeks in he'll get what's called the quitter's flu. it's just all the shit in his lungs coming out. he'll probably have stomach problems too, because with as much shit as you cough up after being smoke free for a while it's not hard for some of it to drain back into your stomach. the nice thing about quitter's flu is that you'll be so preoccupied with feeling like shit that you won't even think about cigarettes until it's over
I am the same way, it took me literally pissing blood to end up going in.. Don't let him wait. This flu season is really bad so if he's had signs and is still feeling any illness hes gotta go in. If anything you gotta be firm and tell him you love him but hes gotta go cause he might be in serious danger. No urgent care, but an actual PCP or Emergency Department visit.
