So it'll beat the shit out of new players, then say sorry?
While i'm optimistic, I hope it doesn't become too streamlined. Making mechanics clearer and more transparent i'm all for, but if the lore is just force fed to players instead of how it's been in the previous games, or the gameplay takes a large overall step to "casual", it'll be a massive dissapointment.
I swear to god if they strip it of what makes Dark Souls/Demon's Souls what they are I'm going to cause some pain.
I am pretty sure they are talking about gameplay mechanics here so this is really nothing to get upset about. The gameplay in Dark Souls (Demon's Souls even moreso) has always been just as murky as the story and only hard to get a hang of because you aren't even ever properly introduced to it.
But the subtlety of the story is what made Dark Souls so much more appealing to me, damn it. I'm not fond of this approach at all.
I hope they only think in terms of gameplay mechanics, like the different sorts of damages and stats. It took me quite a while to understand the whole mechanics, besides the menu are really badly designed.
Hopefully the story and gameplay will remain more or less the same.
It better have the praise the sun knight in it
"we want skyrim's audience"
So maybe now you won't have to check a wiki to figure out where certain things are?
There are some really obscure things to find in those games.
I'm pretty early into Dark Souls, but some parts are confusing. I don't want an easier game, but when there are 3 paths to take, some are optional and higher leveled, and you wont even know it. I spent hours playing the same ten minute sequence only to find out it wasn't even the correct way to go.
If you spent hours on playing the same sequence over again, it's pretty obvious that it's the wrong direction to go. Although I get what you are saying, I went to the catacombs first and New Londo, which were tough as nails first until you actually go the right direction.
So no more stuff like "You Defeated"?

I fucking hope that isn't the case. The patch that removed that was worst patch all years.
R.I.P. "YOU DEFEATED", at least you live on with PC mods ;_;

I hope if this is what they mean to fix, they don't limit the player in doing so. Using your example, even though the Catacombs may be the wrong starting direction for a new player, it's actually quite a good first move for experienced players. I hope they don't force the player in the right direction rather than just giving them a nudge.
It's still going to be a hard game though. They'd have to be incredibly stupid to not realize that's the flair of the souls series.

"you defeated" came back in the 1.06 patch for PS3 but now it's gone again

nobody said anything concrete about story other than speculation by the person who wrote the column

[sp]He dies in Dark Souls.[/sp]
It would be nice if this meant the difficulty didn't ramp up like insane near beginning and then go down from there, instead of starting low and going up like most games do.
[sp]He dies in Dark Souls.[/sp]
Well shit. I really should complete the game then before commenting :[
I got bored of Dark Souls in an hour because of how easy it was. I'm serious, it's only hard for people who have no patience.

man did you even play dark souls
[sp]He dies in Dark Souls.[/sp]
[sp]You can save him[/sp]

let me guess you never got to the parish
[sp]You can save him[/sp]
Don't you have to follow some very specific path or something though?
Don't you have to follow some very specific path or something though?
Yeah the sequences to save any NPC are absolutely ridiculous. There's no way you'd figure out how to save them unless you looked it up.

Yup, and then it probably ends with him [sp]Linking the fire in his world, which isn't exactly a step up from his original fate[/sp]

[sp]I'd say linking the fire is much better than finding the sunlight maggot and going hollow[/sp]
let me guess you never got to the parish
I don't think so.
Dunno how I feel about this, I really liked the idea of not really knowing what I'm doing, and as such getting my arse kicked at every corner, learning with experience and not with contrived tutorials.
But I understand the change
I got bored of Dark Souls in an hour because of how easy it was. I'm serious, it's only hard for people who have no patience.
what games do you enjoy then if easiness is a key factor to how much you like a game
