• Using The DivX Codec to Compress in VirtualDub...

Alright, so I'm terribly incompetent at these tech-whatever issues, so I have a slight problem. I'm trying to use FRAPS's advice for using VirtualDub to compress an uncompressed AVI.
Using VirtualDub is quite easy. To create a compressed version of the AVI follow these steps: * Start VirtualDub * Select File->Open and choose the AVI in the Fraps directory you wish to compress. * Select Video->Compression and choose the codec you wish to compress with (usually divx) * Select File->Save As AVI and specify a filename for the new AVI.
That's all well and good... except when I open up Video->Compression, there is no DivX codec. So I went to the DivX site and just grabbed whatever download was on the first page. It seems it installed the DivX codec, as there's a folder for it in the Start Menu, and I can run the configuration tool for it, but I can't get VirtualDub to pick up on it. Maybe this is an exceedingly stupid question, but, hey! I'm an exceedingly stupid person, so it all works out. Help would nevertheless be appreciated!
Had the exact same problem.
Try using Xvid instead, see if that works.
Yeah Xvid is compatible everywhere DIVX is, free, and has better slightly better quality. http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html Also you probably picked up some DIVX bloatware you may want to get rid of.
Try using Xvid instead, see if that works.
Hm. I downloaded it and installed, but still no option for it in VDub. But that may very well be because
Also, as I currently don't have access to my 64-Bits-machine, I can't offer a build for 64-Bit operating systems. Sorry about that.
And I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition.
Try downloading the KLite codec pack, that's what I do for source recorder and it works fine.
