Can't wait for every game to be compared to Dark Souls when it's anything but an easy game, like any game that has any kind of fantasy in it is now 'Skyrim with X'
This game is always referred as a blend of Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus by RPS, only because it shares some pretty vague themes. It's dumb.

I don't think it's that much of a leap to describe the game in such terms.

How many other games could you describe as similar to Dark Souls if you were to apply your logic?
This game is always referred as a blend of Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus by RPS, only because it shares some pretty vague themes. Not that they're the only ones that do it, plenty of gaming 'journalists' do it but they do it so fucking often it's pathetic.
The "Skyrim with guns" thing is just supposed to convey information quickly at the lack of accuracy. You can argue that it's just supposed to draw clicks from confused people and the fanbase of the mentioned games, but with the sheer quantity of (frequently overlapping) small news reports and highlights I don't blame a mass media site for not going with the sophisticated approach that's more easily skimmed over. I played like two bosses of the game and personally didn't think it had good game design, tho it was solid at the core. Sometimes game design is intuitive - like the golem protecting his shiny weakspot - but at other times you need to shoot an arrow through a campfire that conveniently drops from the ceiling as soon as the fight starts to ignite the arrow and melt away a jam cube protecting a "blind charger"-type of boss boss. It's a bit tricky to wait for the moment to strike, but it's really just a matter of patience, as is the rather boring trip to the bosses every time you die. There's not really anything going on in the world nor does the colorful pixel art really stick out anymore, so after a couple times it just becomes a slightly-more-annoying-than-usual respawn timer. The dash button made wise positioning less than necessary in my experience, hitting it before a projectile hit you was pretty much a spammable get-out-of-jail-free card as long as you don't glue your eyes on the boss in an attempt to make your counter attack. So yeah I didn't get any more punishment from this than from running back to a Pokémon center and the patient don't-get-hit combat which involves glass cannons on either side seemed to me simply like basic strategy from hack'n'slashers like DMC. I didn't really see the atmospheric connection to either Dark Souls or SotC either aside from the general emptiness from the world (which sometimes happens to small games simply due to budget restrictions anyway), but I only got second hand impressions on those, so yeah. Maybe there's something mind-blowing after the bosses, but I just didn't bother checking it out.
It's a neat little game made in 3 days, it's not "Oh my god it's the second coming of Shadow of the Colossus". And the only thing it has to do with Dark Souls is that they both have 'Souls' in the title. [editline]29th December 2013[/editline]
Maybe there's something mind-blowing after the bosses, but I just didn't bother checking it out.
Just go beat the last two. You beat the Heart and the Brain, next is the Eye, and then the 4th one to the North. And the Eye is by far the easiest. I beat the Eye my first try, the Heart after a few tries, and the Brain after a ton of tries because fuck that thing. The Brain would've been more enjoyable if it wasn't invincible when it was stunned. That's just completely counter-intuitive. As for your quote: eh, not really. The end is to mindblowing as the game is to SotC. As in, kinda neat for a 3 day indie game but nothing life-changing.
Papers, Please "it's like dark souls!"
"The plot setting is that the Player Character from Dark Souls has finally settled down from a life of adventure. Except challenge follow him even on the job that should be COMPLETELY FUCKING PEACEFUL AND NOT ONE BIT THREATENING OR STRESSFUL"
With a name like "Titan Souls", you're just asking for it to be compared to SotC and Dark Souls...
I'm still learning dark souls, I started out as the naked guy. And I just got taken away from this island by a giant fucking crow. These skeleton assholes won't stop beating me up.
I'm still learning dark souls, I started out as the naked guy. And I just got taken away from this island by a giant fucking crow. These skeleton assholes won't stop beating me up.
Have you tried talking to the guy sitting at the bonfire?
I'm still learning dark souls, I started out as the naked guy. And I just got taken away from this island by a giant fucking crow. These skeleton assholes won't stop beating me up.
...Skeletons? Are you at some kind of graveyard? If yes, you shouldn't be there.
Have you tried talking to the guy sitting at the bonfire?
He just bitches at me. [editline]30th December 2013[/editline] Oh... ooooh. God I feel dumb now.
it's not that far of a stretch to compare it to dark souls i mean it is called titan souls
it's not that far of a stretch to compare it to dark souls i mean it is called titan souls
Does this mean beyond two souls is also like dark souls?
Does this mean beyond two souls is also like dark souls?
that doesn't fit in with the whole *noun* Souls thing though
Soul Calibur confirmed for Dark Souls prequel
The dash button made wise positioning less than necessary in my experience, hitting it before a projectile hit you was pretty much a spammable get-out-of-jail-free card as long as you don't glue your eyes on the boss in an attempt to make your counter attack.
Oh, so it is like Dark Souls.
I think you guys are missing that it's literally called Titan Souls and was made to be an homage to Dark Souls and SotC
I'm still learning dark souls, I started out as the naked guy. And I just got taken away from this island by a giant fucking crow. These skeleton assholes won't stop beating me up.
I played Dark Souls for a bit, think I got just past the giant spider lady. I never really got back in though, because I was relying on that dragon sword, and there was no way I was ever going to learn to counter enemy attacks.
you guys are mean sometimes. poor little Jbenson.
you guys are mean sometimes. poor little Jbenson.
Yes poor Journalists getting lazy at their jobs.
