I'm not sure I like the way that works. Ships that break just break and sink really quickly. Ships that ram just stop dead. I think Empire TW got the feel with naval fights right on the money for the most part
There's other gripes I have, too, like the Unit cards not showing numbers and each new TW game the battles seem to get smaller scale. Shogun 2's battles seemed smaller, and with the AI skirmish video they seemed even smaller still for Rome 2. It just seems like so far, other than visuals, the campaign map is what really got all the improvements over previous games

Smaller? Shogun II has the largest battles yet. Maxed out, each army can have 8,000 men.
Rome II is smaller than that, but it is still bigger than previous titles, which had just a little over half the size of Shogun II.

Really? The most I ever saw in Shogun 2 was a couple thousand per army, and even then it was only a few different units. Rome had a ton more, as did Medieval. Empire as well so maybe it just seemed that way
"The Total War games have always had some decent naval combat"
