I really like the idea, and I'd love to purchase some more music on vinyl, but so far I haven't really found a good player that wasn't beyond what I earn in a year.

Look for someone selling cheap or second hand Technic Geminis

Because there's so little demand for them, the only new turntables you'll find are cheap pieces of shit that ruin vinyls, or audiophile grade stuff that costs as much as a used car
Personally I'm waiting for U-turn to start shipping overseas, they're apparently really great turntables for <$200

Guess some people just like having something that's physical.
Vinyls are a much cooler thing to walk out of the store with than a shitty little jewel case and show off the album's artwork better, but I'm not convinced by any audio-related reasons other than nostalgia.
There's people out there who dislike the recent move to DRM their music.
Sure, vinyl get you a permanent physical copy but they are high maintenance compared to CD.
Certain styles of music, they need that warmth. They need that feeling. Soul, reggae, hip-hop, even punk - they sound so much better on vinyl.
Unless it's an old record, it most likely uses the digital mix made for CD copies so there won't be any real difference in dynamics or clarity.
The only reason I still purchase vinyl from time to time is to have something nice to sit on my shelf. I rarely play/open any of the new vinyls I buy. I only really play the stuff I find in thrift-stores for like 50 cents.

thats why we have Compact Discs

Yeah, but it's not about functionality anymore. I'm not going to use those CDs. The radio in my car, my audio system at home, hell, even my TV has a USB port. It's, like said before, about having something to put in a shelf, something with value to pass on. And listen to from time to time. Like a memento.
Viva la vinyl.

In a way Vinyls and other analog media is the music. A CD is kind of just a storage medium to take the music off. In technical terms it is very much like a record, but in terms of how it's enjoyed and perceived, it's like a flashdrive.
vinyls are cool, deal with it
i mean look at the design on the vinyl of Anamanaguchi's Endless Fantasy

you can't get that cool shit on a CD

Actually you can get CD's pressed in a variety of styles but the per-disc cost skyrockets.
If I had the money and space I'd love to start a vinyl record collection. Not as a hipster, though, just as an obsolete technology enthusiast.
The best thing about buying a record is catching the tram/train/bus back home and reading the liner notes. You wanna get back home and put the record on but you gotta wait until your public transport journey is over and it feels like it is taking forever, you know, the taking away of the instant gratification combined with this big huge square of artwork and text about your favourite band just making you wanna listen to it even more. By the time you get home and listen to it for the first time it is like you have been waiting your whole life to just hear this record. It's like busting a nut for the first time in 20 years, it's fucking great.

Well, the record will have lower fidelity, but mastering on Vinyl is usually significantly better; primarily because you can't make vinyl louder without actually losing "quality" in the sound.
If I could get vinyl-style mastered copies of songs digitally, then I would; but way more often I see CDs mastered like the track on the bottom:

As apposed to "properly" like the LP on the top.
I have Bioshock 1's soundtrack on vinyl, it just kinda fits with the actual themes of the soundtrack. Very nice and calming.

Vinyl's have great artworks these day, the plates themselves really are something

I used to say the same thing too about people buying records.
Then I grew up.

Waveforms pulled from CD's should not look like that at all unless they got caught up in the loudness war
i prefer cassette's
idk why, but they sound great in a car, and i remember having a lot of tapes but my mom dumped most of them
i just wish i could buy tapes from the 90s
If anything records are now too popular for hipsters, cassette tapes are where it's at.
hipsters
Starting to get a bit aggrevated by this "hipster" bullshit. When I buy a record, I want to have something tangible, plus I enjoy looking at the art work.
Honestly, Vinyls are a nice hobby.
You can collect very rare ones and they are usually very limited, owning one of them can be very satisfying akin to some other collectible object. Furthermore depending on the genre the cover and artwork can be fairly amazing, rich in creativity and quality. A friend of mine collects Vinyl and I am very impressed with the effort and work that is put into these covers.
Another great thing is that listening to Vinyl is somewhat similar to a tradition or ritual. It's nice to take out one of you favorite lps and put it on your player.

yeah and then you put it your cd player and don't see it while it plays
what's the point then

Yeah, imagine having this great plate of food in front of you but why do we even bother? It turns into a brown and moist pieces of crap anyway?
I guess I can see the appeal.
I definitely do not have the money for it.

I only have a tape deck in my vehicle so I use a cassette adapter to listen to music from my phone
You get the nice PSSSSHHHHHHHHHH noise but with modern music it's great
