Are you comfortable killing your country's soldier in a videogame?

I realized today that the only game that I think you can kill American soldiers in(outside of multiplayer) is Prototype, Grand Theft Auto V, and Saints Row the Third. I personally didn't feel bad and only fully realized what I did until later. At this point, the only people you can't kill is children(except in some old games like Fallout 2) so it isn't really surprising, but I wonder how a veteran would feel.
Really depends on the type of person: it's someone who just sees it as a game and doesn't care VS. someone who takes it as a symbol and cares.
I do that all the time in CS : GO and I don't really give a fuck.
i'm okay with killing any type of pixel
Yes because they're not real. :v:
This sounds like a question an old person/hardcore religious/republican who's never touched electronics before would ask
I don't see why them being from my country makes it any less justifiable for them to be killed so I'd be fine

also they're not real
Wait guys, look at the way the poll is worded, it's a trap! He's gonna forward us all to the NSA!

not if you have mods
I miss playing Project Reality and throwing rockets at Americans, and roleplaying Jihadists with my friends.
In the end I would have no problem killing my country's soldiers in a videogame. I would probably kill my own family in a videogame if they were modelled in it. But that's just when messing around. If I'm given an option for non-lethal approach I go for it first. It's all about context. I can't really see my country as a villain or a big threat so actually our soldiers being the enemy seems unlikely to me. As for my family comment if they were portrayed as innonect NPCs I don't see myself killing them. If they sticked their faces on enemy soldiers I'd killed them like any other enemy. I would only take a bit more time looking at their models and check how good work the artist did.
For me whatever I do in games doesn't matter, it's just pixels (I do hate games allowing the player to rape or violently torture people, that's sick).
Story and main character's motive are important, too.
I meant to vote "I'd prefer if it didn't, but I would still play the game" but accidentally clicked "dealbreaker" without realizing it.
I'd be delighted to even see one
I'm pretty much indifferent to what I'm fighting against.
Except for harmless non-combatants. Not only is it unsporting, but it's also boring.
What I think is weird, is that I'm an infantryman in the US Army. I've been in for a year and a half and I have been deployed overseas. I shoot at virtual depictions of myself and comrades and don't feel terrible about that at all.
However, my dad is a retired police officer. Shooting at police in video games makes me feel awful. It's probably because my first thought when I see a cop is my dad, though.
Why would I care about nationality? If I shoot a german, that is the same as shooting an american. All humans beings afterall.
So no and besides they are not real anyway.

What, you don't mind dead pixels? I think they're really annoying. Save the pixels, man.
I would feel kind of uncomfortable for sure.
Also another game where you can kill American soldiers:

My family was Axis during the last world war, but I'm not complaining
Ironically though, I feel sorta bad for killing anyone in MGS so that's where I got into the habit of clearing games nonlethally if given the option :v:
it's a game so i honestly don't care
it's not real
Honestly, I don't really care. It's not like it's real. [sp]Being able to fight against your fellow soldiers in Spec Ops: The Line actually improved the game in my opinion.[/sp] If fighting against your own countrymen benefits the story, I'm all for it.
I don't give a fuck tbh
when I'm at the point where I have to kill them, they aren't "an American soldier fighting to protect their nation" in my head anyway, they're "another asshole trying to kill me."

It's like having to snap a dog's neck in CoD. I fucking hate when injury comes to animals, but they're trying to bite my ass off.
It'd be a little uncomfortable, but it is just a video game after all.
I don't see why people would care over pixels.
Killed Canadian soldiers, American, British, Liberals, Conservatives, Police, Citizens,
kill everybody :tinfoil:
Don't care
It's just a game. The soldier in any game is just a Computer generated model, given a infant A.I. With simple programming to simply fire back and use it's cover to defend itself. It's skin is a texture, created in another program by an artist, and wrapped around the model to give it character.
It's voice is a speaker box, connected to a tape recorder of a voice actor that did all the lines for that enemy soldier in a day or two, and already got paid for his work. It's movements are animations made by an animator, and mapped to the model of the Soldier so it can move and have reactions like a real person.
Even though in the end it's just a glorified video game robot wearing a skin.
I'd assume, within the context of the game, that they're probably trying to kill me if I'm trying to kill them, at which point all bets are off. I have no problem killing any enemy in a game.
I don't remember the last time I played a game that had Australian's as enemies but I'd be ok with it.
last game us cunts were in was warfighter but regardless who cares
Finland barely gets mentioned in video games, but imagining playing a game where you shoot finns does sound a bit uncomfterable. It'd mean sweet ragdolls for gmod though so finn shooting game go go go!
Army personell I'm okay with, plus there's never any Swedish soldiers except for MOH:WF. Police officers is another thing though, that makes me slightly uncomfy.
