So basically I had the router set up and I already had the modem/router set up too. I just can't seem to find anything wrong with the setup.
I have the right encapsulation, the VPI and VCI set up right too. I got the right password and username.
Hell, in the setup disk, the wizard said I had successfully connected to the internet! But I'm not?!
The red light for internet is blinking, meaning that its not working, but everything else is good. I don't see what I did wrong... AAAAHHHH!

The DG834G is a router...?
You have a router connected to a router?

Nothing wrong with that, as long as he remembers to reroute the gateway.
Never said there was anything wrong, but it is vital information for forming a solution.

Sure does beg for an explanation.
If you haven't already and you are running 2 routers, try this:
(This is what I did when I had to cobble a network together with nothing but 3 routers, 3 not very good routers at that.)

Plug the Belkin router into a computer on its own to access its web interface.

Disable DHCP

Put the router on an unused IP (For example if Router one is 192.168.2.1, change this one to 192.168.2.2) to make sure they don't conflict

Set up the WiFi settings

Connect the routers together via the LAN ports, ignore the WAN port on he second router.
This may or may not work, I have found some cheap routers won't even initialise if the WAN port isn't active. Stupid idea.
How do I connect them together using lan ports? Also, should I disable DHCP on the Netgear or the Belkin?
Oh and I am using the DG834G as a modem. Since the Belkin isn't both. I got it for free so I may as well use it.
Disable DHCP on the Belkin.
You connect a cable from a LAN port on the Belkin to a LAN port on the Netgear. Ignore the WAN port on the belkin in other words.
I think this would be easier if you guys just MSN + TeamViewer, and let Tezz do the setting up.
start -> run -> cmd.
Type in "ipconfig /release"
Wait a few seconds, then type in "ipconfig /renew"
This should reset your computers local IP so that it is configured right for the router you are connected to.
Wait, so the WAN port is the "modem" port and the LAN ports are the 4 other ones?
When I do that, the router doesn't light up the modem light or the internet light.
But I think it WORKED!

Ok, fuck. I did the ipconfig and renew thing and now I can't find the router management site for the Belkin.
It used to be like 192.168.2.1, but now its nowhere to be found?????

Wait, doesn't connecting the belkin router from a lan port to the router's lan port remove its usefulness?
Did you disable the new routers DHCP? if not you will get conflicts, you basically want to make it a wireless access point (as far as i can tell from your drawings)
But I can't find the setup page for it/I don't know its ip anymore. Also, when I connect to the belkin, it says I connected to the netgear...
If youre trying to make the new Belkin one a WAP there is a option for it in the web interface under Wireless.
If youre trying to connect to its web interface, just plug your PC straight into it, and unplug everything else from the it, then find the default IP and login details.
Yeah the problem is, when I connect my laptop to the belkin, which is connected to the netgear, it says I have connected to the netgear, so I can't do anything. And when I disconnect the Belkin from the netgear, I can't run ipconfig because I don't have internet.
RRRAAAAAAGGGEEEEEE!

When I try to connnect to the belkin, it just says identifying...
And when running the easy setup wizard, it says i'm not connected to anything.
I dont understand why you need 2 routers though? cant you get the login info for your internet from your ISP?
No its not the info I need, its just that the belkin is seriously fucked up.
I'm connected to it, but it says I am connected to the netgear.
When I try to connect wirelessly, it says that its still identifying.
But why are you using 2 routers? Wouldnt it be easier to just use the belkin one, and by login info, i mean the username and password for your internet connection, not router.
No, the netgear is a modem/router while the belkin is just a router. It needs a modem. And yes I have the username and password for internet connection. Its just that the belkin is behaving retardedly.
Try using a actual modem instead of a router? It should just work when you disable DHCP on the first router and put in the correct gateway
How do I put in the correct gateway?
in your belkin routers config, it will be under setup, change its gateway to your modem/router
I can't find that screen though!
1. Disconnect any cat5 cables from the belkin.
2. Reset the belkin router by pushing a pin into their reset hole. Some routers make have a set time for you to push it in for so look that up before doing so.
3. First see if you can even connect to the belkin. If you can't, it is broken. The router isn't going to work if your laptop cannot detect it and connect to it. If you can connect and everything, go onto the next step
4. Connect an ethernet cable from the lan port of the netgear to the wan port of the belkin. See if it works, if not, read the next step.
5. The issue is likely both of the routers are using the same network IP. The default on a lot of routers is 192.168.1.1 so all you have to do is change the belkin's ip to 192.168.30.1. Change it, restart your router, and see if it works.
If none of this works, get someone you know who is good to see what you're doing wrong. The issue with doing network stuff is that people often do really dumb stuff without realizing it. Even if you know what you're doing, it is very easy to mess up.
Well I can connect to it wirelessly. But it says its an un-id'd network, when its not. When I reset the router, the factory set gateway doesn't work. Connecting to it with a ethernet cable makes it so that I am somehow connecting to my netgear.
And how am I supposed to change the ip if I don't know how to access the setup page and vice versa?

Quick question, you did read the manual? your using the seperate ethernet port and the cable provided with the belkin router to connect it between an ethernet port on your old modem/router with the new one?
Umm, yep. I used the cable provided by belkin. The issue with nothing detecting the belkin just came up yesterday/the day before.
