And an i7 build just to keep people happy.

Gonna pull the trigger sometime in the next 2 to 3 weeks, I repeat, critique seriously.
EDIT: Here's the new build... Here we go again...
EDIT EDIT: Added i7 attempt
EDIT EDIT EDIT: Removed for fail image edit
why the fuck do you need 150$ worth of fans? couldnt you just buy cheap ones?
The SSD is a waste of money. Get a 30Gb for your OS and some programs. Put that saved money towards another 5870.
.
Also get this GPU. Comes with a Double lifetime warranty.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150443
Also better RAM.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145285
And why the Notebook wireless card?
And better thermal paste
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186020&cm_re=mx-2-_-35-186-020-_-Product
And here is a cheaper PSU.750 watt is overkill.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012
And if you want, this has All the features of a core i7 including hyper threading for less than the 860 and 920.

You have a $2,600 budget and you settle on the i5?
el oh el

Wrong one, the X3430 doesn't have HT.
My go.
Everything he wants. The Megahalem gives some very good results.

you know an SSD doesn't really cutdown on loading times very much
and in most cases, the write times take longer than it would on an HDD

the noctua he already has listed is much better, though, and clearly he's willing to pay more and not really looking to save.

Yeah but honestly, it's going to cut down about 3 degrees for double the price? Air based coolers can only go so far.
What about SATA 6Gb/s? 6Gb Transfer rate... And If you get a mobo with Sata 3 you get your USB 3 as well.... Only a suggestion...

have a blast finding an sata 6gb/s hdd

and no that's not necessarily what it means
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-gb/products/desktops/barracuda_hard_drives/barracuda_xt/
We mean priced nice.
If you really want a "fast drive", then just get a velociraptor. You're wasting gobs of cash that could be spent on the things that actually matter. An i5 with a single 5870 for a $2,600 build? There's something wrong there.
Alright... In turn
@ClaBrendon
The paste is MX-3, It's from the same company and has better benchmarks.
I agree with the card and will swap it out.
Wireless card is free
I need standard height RAM for my sanity.
EDIT: Changing PSU, I can't use the 750 anyways... Only has 8 pin connectors.
I have been interested in the server CPUS... Could you direct me to the closest analogue to the i5-750?
@CpSharp
I didn't settle on anything... I chose i5 for better benchmarks at the same clocks in games compared to the i7. I ain't doing any work on this computer.
@MTMod
A single P256 has the same power as a pair of velociraptors and cools quite better.
I'm running this on an big screen tv... The 5870 should max anything at the resolution I am using (1080p).
Continue please everyone... I need as much help with the planning as I can get.

Just FYI the 8 pin connectors are actually 6+2 pin, so they can be either 6 or 8.
Just FYI the 8 pin connectors are actually 6+2 pin, so they can be either 6 or 8.
The 650 specifically states that it has 6+2 connectors... the 750 says 8 pin... Is this just a clerical error?
Edit: yea.. It is... Both are 6+2 connectors... Damn you Newegg!

one that doesn't cost at least $600
-If you want to effectively eliminate load times why not just put the 2 HDDs you're buying in RAID 0?
-The X3440 is essentially a downclocked i7 and only $40 more than the i5 750. I also heard it has more OC headroom than the consumer level i7.
-Do you plan on CFing the 5870? Cause that PSU is overkill for your current setup.
I am considering Crossfire in the future, but for now I will not be CFing
Would you recommend I use the X3440? Or rather, will it be cooler at the same OC?
Or rather, will it be cooler at the same OC?
I personally can't say, I'm just going off this article: http://www.siliconmadness.com/2009/09/intel-releases-lynnfield-updates-xeon.html
Plus, Xeon processors are usually better binned, so you may find yourself with either better power consumption or more overclocking headroom.
i7s can overclock quite ridiculously, though. ie 2.66GHz to 3.8GHz is nothing, so...
[editline]12:30PM[/editline]
and a 750W PSU won't overkill his system. you'd have to be silly to think that having a PSU that's more than the required bare minimum will make it explode

Just a quick question... If I want to get extra performance out of it, Could I potentially mount 4 HDDs in a single RAID 0?
EDIT:
Funny? I'm serious you sissy!
[editline]05:51PM[/editline]
Major edit: I'm finally dropping the SSD... Finally got a straight benchmark... I aint paying 600 dollars for 6 seconds...

Corsair underrates their PSUs. If it was a Rosewill then yeah but that particular Corsair is overkill no matter how you swing it.
(but since he confirmed to my question that he is considering CF in the future, turns out that PSU is just fine)

There's 1 on newegg, but you have to buy it with a $9k build.

You better read up on RAID before you consider using it cause there are certain risks involved: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=830&page=1

SWEET JESUS! WHAT IS THAT!!!!!!!
That makes my Now-non-existent SSD look cheap!
SWEET JESUS! WHAT IS THAT!!!!!!!

One of the first SATA 6 GB/s hard drives. 2 TB. 64 Cache. And the obvious 6 GB/s. It's basicly double the WD Black 1 TB, except for the RPM.
... 6 GB/s is the interface speed... It has nothing to do with the actual drive...
Also... if getting an ssd is getting ahead of the curve, I sure as hell don't want to get the FIRST SATA III drive.
Also... If I use the 4 drive Idea... Would I need a RAID card to make the system work? The benchmarks I've seen should bring performance somewhere in the 400mb/s area.
SSD and SATA III is different. SSD has faster access to it's memory because it's built sorta like RAM. SATA III is the speed it can transfer at.
That's why I said "If SSD = too soon... then SATA III = F$&# TOO $*@&$ SOON"
