I'd just like to interject for moment...

Yeah because BBC's audience needs to know that.
It's not a rival operating system either
Ya, Windows can't even begin to dream of being in the same league as it

This is a useless factoid that means literally nothing at a practical level. You can make a Linux based distribution that uses absolutely no GNU utilities, and most binary software would still work with it. Spouting out the RMS copypasta really needs to stop.

Talk about trying to be smartass while having no idea what you are actually talking about.

Please explain to me how its any more being a smartass than interjecting people every time the word operating system is said in the context of Linux. That's like being the guy who freaks out every time somebody says they are allergic to nuts when you offer them peanuts. It doesn't matter that it's a legume, and it doesn't matter in most contexts that Linux is not completely an operating system. Also, look up the project "Mastadon" before you tell me I don't know what I am talking about. It's old, but that's definitely what it was setting out to do.

To be fair, in terms of servers and embend use systems, you are absolutely correct. Just not when it comes to the personal computers. And since the article talks about some server code, the ratings you're getting are kinda... unwaranted
No one uses MSSQL on purpose.
