I thought lightning returns was just part of the articles title, This is not a good name.
Well, I liked the first two games, so I'm definitely going to be getting this.
FF XIII was interesting and love (and hate) the game, i'll put it as interesting like final fantasy 8 in my own opinion. I never played the 2nd game at all and probably won't be able to play due to lack of cash and their are more interesting games that i want to get a hold off. Maybe i'll add FF XIII-2 on my Christmas list.

The fact that the game runs completely in real-time a la Majora's Mask, has more dynamic combat, and centers entirely around Lightning has me intrigued as to how this will all pan out. I do hope Sazh makes a triumphant return though; far as I'm concerned he's the best character in the FFXIII saga.

You'll be surprised for how cheap you can find XIII-2 at some places.
Example: Got XIII collectors ed for $160 NZD (my wallet hurt for ages) on launch. Just a week ago I got XIII-2 brand new for $17 NZD.
Squeenix has had a massive boner over Lightning ever since FF13
But tbh I don't blame them, she is an interesting character from an interesting game, it kinda broke the whiny angsty barriers that a lot of main characters have had in the FF series
Though Hope kinda ruined it. I guess it isn't a Final Fantasy game without at least one whiny angsty kid.

I kinda like the concept they presented. Hopefully the story will make more sense. FF XIII-2 was full of stupid plot devices.
The title is terrible though. Either go for FF XIII-3 or FF XIII <subtitle>, not this reverse inconsistent mess.

Each numbered iteration (aka 1, 2, 3 etc) are entirely new stories and completely separate from each other. The series has certain mainstays (there's always a character named Cid, for example), but every main title has a new story and world with new characters. The more popular games (7, 10, 13) have spin-off titles with a continuing narrative and/or characters.
Looking forward to this. Liked the past two so this should be good.
Today at Gamespot i saw a poster in one sentence accuse Square Enix of resting on their past successes fruits and curst how shit it is that they keep releasing new games based on a gameworld that they specifically said, and he got hyped at, would consist of MANY fucking games. In the next sentence hes all like "FF7,8,9 RMK PL0X!!!"

FYI, it's people like this (not you specifically) i'm talking about. "Stop milking FFXIII!!! Why do you do spinoffs all the time!?!?!? VII stood on it's own so awesome!!!" They seem to only think it's cool when VII is milking them dry. A whole game and a ton of spinoffs based on the Emo Phenomenon. All the while, XIII has a proper mythology going that isn't just a carbon Copy of Steampunk+Viking and is actually a bigger hit, it seems.
As it stands, VII has been more thoroughly spin-off milked than even Resident Evil has...

XIII-2... Hmm Think FFV + Back to the future.
FFV is actually objectively the best in the series.
I found FF13 to be great, except for the obvious linearity. TBH I wouldn't mind seeing FF13-3 be a bit more open though.
And another announcement without any Versus-XIII news. Honestly? I really don't care about FF apart from V-XIII which really caught my eye but now they seem like they're going to use the combat mechanics from V-XIII in XIII-3
Perhaps just super optimistic but I really hope the fight system will be like Versus XIII's. The realtime action feels much better for FF in my eyes.
I don't get the hype about V-XIII. All we've seen so far seems pretty bland and brown/black...

The problem with FF XIII is the same thing that makes it so amazing to play, the beautiful design and insane polish. It'd be too much work and not cost-efficient for a development team to make a world the size of say, FF VII or VIII, with the same quality. They worked themselves into a corner.
This is the densest concentration of people that I've seen that seem to have a relatively positive opinion of XIII.
This game takes few hundred years after 13-2..
I just hope Sazh is still in this somehow :{
