• Motherboard for a low power fileserver

Hey, maybe one of you guys can find a better motherboard than the one I have my eye on for a new fileserver. Here's some info about me, my needs and limitations - First off I am located in Ottawa, Ontario so shipping to Canada is a must. For calculating shipping use K2M 2K1 as the postal code. I would like to spend no more than $250 CAD with shipping and tax but it is flexible. The lower the cost the better though. The motherboard MUST: -Consume low amounts of power -Be equipped with Gigabit ethernet. 100 megabit will not be sufficient. -Be equipped with at least 1 PCI-e 8x or greater slot. This slot must support cards other than video cards. This isn't an issue on most motherboards but some PCI-e slots just won't take RAID controllers. In this computer I will be installing a Dell PERC 5/i (rebranded LSI 8480E) It would be nice if the motherboard had (but is not required): -At least 3 onboard SATA. -Additional PCI or PCI-e slots. -eSATA Some other notes: -RAM type does not matter, do not include RAM in the cost. -Case, PSU, RAM, etc are not needed. This is motherboard only. -Gigabit ethernet is a must but it doesn't necessarily need to be onboard. Just include a gigabit NIC with the price if the board has an extra PCI-e 1x slot. A PCI gigabit NIC will not do, it must be either an onboard or PCI-e gigabit NIC. -Its just a file server, I don't exactly need an i7 under the hood and I really need it to consume as little power as possible since its going to be put on a a UPS thats already very close to max capacity. -This computer will be running 24/7, I would prefer a board with decent build quality obviously. Anyway here's the one I had in mind, it is a ZOTAC NM10-B-E BGA559 with a 1.66GHz dual core Atom processor. Again I would prefer under $250 CAD but if there is something that is a must have for a little more I'll definitely consider it. Any ideas or is this the one?

I was looking at that one but the problem is there's no gigabit. A PCI gigabit card will be a bottleneck when transferring to and from the RAID controller also.
iirc you can use pcie x1 x4 & x8 cards in a pcie x16 slot.
I was looking at that one but the problem is there's no gigabit. A PCI gigabit card will be a bottleneck when transferring to and from the RAID controller also.
The card wouldn't be bottlenecked.
iirc you can use pcie x1 x4 & x8 cards in a pcie x16 slot.
Uh, yeah. Nobody said otherwise. The slot just needs to be at least 8x physical and electrical.
The card wouldn't be bottlenecked.
I've never seen or heard of a PCI card that will sustain real gigabit speeds. Thats why they made PCI-X gigabit cards. A PCI gigabit card only performs slightly better than a 100 megabit card.

Was thinking to just use that slot for a gigabit card... Anyway could these do the job?
