Jesus christ. For those who don't know Ben was a fucking great character from the Icarus Effect book. This is exactly what I hoped the sequel would be about.
Oh man, I have Icarus Effect out from the library right now! I should probably read it.

One of the best books I've read in a long, long time I can't recommend it enough. The writer is a really nice guy too.
So, I'm assuming The Fall would be post Deus Ex 1, what with the Dark Age ending in that game causing The Collapse. Unless The Fall actually bridges the gap between Human Revolution and Deus Ex, since there's definitely a lot of disparity between the neo-Renaissance of Human Revolution and the grimdark dystopia of Deus Ex, and things are implied to have happened in the interim.

It'll be the gap between HR and DX1. It'll be to do with the big collapse that occured prior to DX1. If it were post-DX1 I don't know why they would cast Ben, he would be super old by then.
Maybe the one after this may be a remake of the original Deus Ex? That'd be great, if done correctly.
Oh snap, Ben Saxon is back?!
Wonder if they'll bring back Janus as well

I'd like Deus Ex with the gameplay of Human Revolution.

With better bossfights, that is. As in the kind that can be solved multiple ways or avoided altogether, a'la the original.
Also limb-based health system like the classic, jus' saiyan.
Another april fools prank? You won't trick me again Eidos.

Im on edge about that. I like it, but crawling my way around Liberty Island from having my legs blown out is not an expierience I'd like to repeat.

Seeing a medkit on a ledge, but not being able to jump up and grab it.
Deus Ex problems.

I'm 99.9% optimistic that won't be a problem
- For DX:HR the boss fight development was outsourced to a different company with very little connection and understanding of Deus Ex.
- In The Missing Link, there is a boss fight that can be handled many ways - you can punch him out, knock him down, or shoot him in the head from across the room.
- In the upcoming Director's Cut it's been said that the boss fights have been reworked.
Hopefully it'll have a better ending than just pushing a button and watching a slideshow. If there was anything I disliked more than the boss fights, it was the endings.
I asked for this.

:v:
Holy shit.
Just finished my second playthrough of Deus ex HR, fucking great how it doesnt force you to fight but if you explore you get rewarded.
Only big issue was the boss fights but I managed to beat them all with ease by bugging them...
Reading the Icarus effect now, and I was just thinking would I see any of these characters in a game. Fancy that.

Its been previously addressed by EM that they fucked up with that due to time constraints and probably poor planning.
They've rectified that in the directors cut of HR but unfortunately that wont come to any other consoles or at least it seems that way. Basically dont worry about them making that mistake again.
Yeah, it was sad they had to cut few areas because of time. I'm still annoyed we won't get the DC on PC because it'll be what the base game should have been.
I'm hyped as fuck for tomorrow though.
This sounds great, I wanna read that book now.
I really should play HR properly all the way through now instead of just tinkering with it. It's a problem I have - I have trouble committing to games.

I better read the other half of the book quickly then, 'cause for now he's mostly just your average military hard guy protag.
Hype

There's some nice character development between him and Anna later on. Also some crazy conversations between him and Namir.
What pissed me off the most was the book made the bosses super interesting then in the game there was practically no characterization of them.
I haven't read the book, but it makes sense it'll be between DX:HR and DX1.
The Deus ex bible: http://www.nanoaugur.net/dx/bible/ explains what has happened to all the major countries prior to the first game, including the activities of the Illuminati etc. For example, in North America:
In 2030, the same year the AIDS cure was released, a major earthquake hit the West Coast, destroying most of San Francisco and dumping all of Los Angeles and most of Southern California south of Lompoc into the ocean. Some saw more than coincidence in the fact that the cure for a disease long-thought to have spread from San Francisco was released at the same time the city itself was destroyed. No connection between these events has been proved and no evidence of foul-play has been discovered. Regardless of root causes, the earthquake forced the government to declare the west coast (or what was left of it) a disaster area. Since then, the US has teetered on the brink of bankruptcy, trying to deal with the situation. The country is still pulling itself out of a hole (physical and financial).
With the government focusing on the disaster on the ex-West Coast, the needs of the other parts of the country went unmet. In 2031, Utah announced its intention to secede from the United States, declaring its independence and annexing what was left of Arizona and Nevada. Inspired by Utah's example, fringe groups in Texas declared independence, too, followed shortly thereafter by a group made up of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming -- the Northwest Secessionist Forces, antecedent of the NSF (National Secessionist Forces). These efforts all failed and the would-be secessionists have been pushed back to the margins of society. However, martial law still exists in some portions of these states.
The Russo-Mexican Alliance, emboldened by a burgeoning economy built on a foundation of steady drug sales in the US and by the distractions provided by the events described above, declared its intention to take back the state of Texas it had lost centuries before. Conspiracy buffs had long theorized that UN troops would one-day swarm across the Mexican border -- they were not far wrong. Russo-Mexican troops advanced rapidly and have, at the time the game begins, taken control of the southern portions of the state. Texas is a genuine warzone with battlelines drawn just north of Austin. Needless to say, many have died in the fighting and anyone attempting to enter Texas from North, East or West is in for trouble. (NOTE: At one time, Texas was going to be a mission in Deus Ex.)
As a result of all this tumult, America is in a constant state of tension. The borders are guarded by the Armed Forces, customs is deadly serious, immigration laws have been tightened dramatically, and nationwide martial law seems imminent.
