• Monitor won't recognize DVI/VGA anymore

Probably the most inane computer problem every to be posted on this forum, but here goes. I use a VGA cable for my BENQ GL2750 which connects to a VGA->DVI adapter before plugging into my PC. This has always worked for me, up until yesterday. My friend borrowed my VGA cable and gave me his HDMI cable instead, which I was totally cool with.... until I tried to use it. HDMI display works fine, except for auto-scaling and screen dimension constraints. Even through the monitor's settings, I can't change the damn dimensions of the screen. Anyway, today I got my VGA cable back, hoping to forget about this whole issue. So I plug in the VGA cable to the DVI adapter that it was plugged into before, go to switch display modes on my monitor, screen goes black andddddd... Back to HDMI mode. Every time I go to change display modes, the screen goes black as if it'll change, and then goes right back to HDMI. Any ides as to how to fix this/change the screen dimensions so I can actually use the HDMI mode properly? Cheers.
Tried Safe Mode on the PC? As for the display picture when using HDMI, you'll need to adjust the underscan/overscan in your graphics card settings.
