• Computer refuses to switch on

Ever since I replaced the motherboard in my machine with a new one, it has had a little difficulty starting up. These are the series of events that would normally accompany me pressing the power button: Power button pressed, power lights come on, GPU fan blasts into action as only a GeForce 9600GT could, something (I assume the built-in speaker) makes a clicking noise, (although sometimes 3, after which the computer normally starts up) and then turns itself back off. A few seconds later, the process would repeat, except it would actually start properly this time. The above happened just now, except where the computer would normally turn itself off and go on to start normally, it now turns itself off after half a second, without fail. It now goes: Press power button, GPU fans start, clicking noise, GPU fans stop and another clicking noise, power down. Then a few seconds later, the computer tries to start up again, repeating the same process. Interestingly, when the computer would start after failing to start, an error would come up from the BIOS. Unfortunately, I cannot claim to remember what it was. My suspicion is that there is a problem with the PSU preventing the computer from booting. However, this is simply a suspicion, and I don't want to drop however much it would be for a PSU when money is scarce. This is why I come to this forum. I'm asking if my theory - that the PSU is buggered - is a logical one, or if there are any other things that could be at fault here, and how to determine if they are. Thanks in advance for any help.
It won't be the PSU. If that was messed up, it simply wouldn't do anything at all. It's a compatibility issue, most likely.
Play around with all the power connectors, when I had to replace some RAM I managed to bump a power cable out a bit, and got the same think you are getting. If you don't find anything, I'm not sure what to tell you.
I thank you both for your posts. I did manage to fix the problem, and as you all hypothesised, it wasn't due to the PSU. It seems that resetting the BIOS settings cleared up the problem, and it is booting normally. The reason I made this thread was due to the fact that the computer has had problems in the past with switching on, but not quite to the degree that I experienced yesterday. I wonder if this caused the settings to become corrupted? Perhaps the settings were already buggered up, and the fact that it could boot was something of a miracle? Oh well, I'll post back if the computer continues having problems booting. I don't mind Windows getting corrupted, but BIOS settings? That could be a little more explosive. Thanks for the help.
