I don't think you know how economics works.
Unfortunately, a big price hike was kinda obvious. I know more and more people who aren't paying for cable or anything because of Netflix. Of course they're going to take advantage of that.

It doesn't work for shit when you hike prices up and lose all your customers.
Which isn't going to happen for a couple bucks, but still. It's a dick move, I don't care how much you cite economics.

Current customers are not affected by the price hike.

That I was not aware of, statement retracted.

For a limited amount of time.
Personally, I couldn't care less. It's got some great shows and zero advertisement.
He said that increasing subscription rates would help the firm "acquire more content and deliver an even better streaming experience."
Basically, increasing cost to give more content. Allegedly.
It's one or two dollars increase, it's not that horrendous. And it's for new members anyways.
You have to remember that as a company grows larger and attracts a larger audience, the cost of doing business increases. Sometimes this happens in quick bursts of growth, which is what happening to Netflix.
These costs should be included in the price beforehand and should be covered by the increase in customers, but with quick growth spurts like this, it can be hard to calculate a good price point.
This is even more noticeable when your recurring investment costs go up: They are starting to create their own content, instead of repeating licensed content they pay a fee for.
This means the costs of recording studios, equipment, extra personal and props, all of which were not included in the original price-point calculation before this move.
To be fair, even before the move, the price point Netflix is at right now is ridiculously low for the amount of content you get. A few dollars/euros more is fair in return for more content, original or otherwise.
Netflix is still cheap as hell. I just wish they can use more of that money they're raking in to gain an even wider selection.
At least, hopefully, because despite how successful they are they've been removing selection as well.
Dick move, they are making a huge profit, there is no need for a price increase other than capitalistic greed of which any sane person does not support.
im insane in the membrane
