It's literally Age of Empires 2 with less features. Why remake an inferior game to the one you just re-released?

Hey, the 1st AoE game is fun. While the 2nd game is better, the 1st one is actually challenging.

Hmm well it's a lot more complex than that. AOE 1 is in a different time period, its a pretty different and challenging game. A lot of people wanted it. It's also an actual remaster, unlike aoe 2 hd which basically ended up being a scam thats even worse than the original aoe 2. the aoe 1 remaster got pushed back probably because they want to make the pathfinding better than aoe 1, as well as put in formations and shit like that, it's basically upgrading the game to be more of a modern rts while still keeping the theme and gameplay solid. They're going to do the same with aoe 2 and aoe 3, probably age of mythology later on as well.

the connectivity between players is awful, and the pathfinding is even worse than the original, not to mention it isn't as optimized as the original
basically no competitive online player plays HD unless they have to for tournaments (lan mainly) and playing 4v4's is a nightmare. The new civs/dlc is good, but the base game is inferior to the original

I haven't experienced any issues with connectivity besides desyncing in long games, which have been fixed recently. I've been able to get stable 3v3s going without issue. Meanwhile with Voobly, I experience large lag spikes frequently.

then you have the opposite experience compared to most players, viper (one of the biggest aoe pro players) commented a bit ago that theres basically no contest between the 1.5 userpatch and HD because of how smooth it is
In that case I'd wish they'd open up the closed beta invitations if they still need more feedback and testing.
