Ever since I got my microphone over a year ago, ti has never played back through my speakers. But just yesterday, after my L4D2 demo crashed because of the fuckup Valve did when they updated Steam, my mic has started playing back through my speakers. I want to stop the playback thing, while still making the mic usable in games.
What OS do you have?
If you have XP, open the playback devices settings, enable "microphone" as one of the visible controls, and uncheck it.
If on Vista, go to Playback Devices, find your speakers, go to properties, and under the levels tab, click the little speaker icon next to the volume bar for your mic.
I see no "playback device" settings.
