• Upgrading everything but HD and GPU

In anticipation of [upcoming game here] I'm determined to update to Windows 7, and also upgrade my CPU but incidentally that also means I'll have to get a new PSU, mobo and RAM. Thinking of this build: Total price 561,60 €, or ~$814 Since I live here in a socialist paradise everything costs a shitload and if you could bring that down to 500€ I'd be happier My current case is a mid-tower Antec Sonata III, so normal ATX stuff should fit just fine. I want to keep the i5 2500k, and I want 8GB RAM (and preferably 1600MHz but I can deal with a bit less speed). Any options, alternatives, cheaper equivalents?
What GPU and HDD are you using currently?
GTX 460 1GB (will upgrade if necessary, but currently it should do), one HD is my system HD, some generic Seagate 250gb. Other is a 1TB (500GB partitions) Samsung Spinpoint F3.
I don't see any problems with that, and the 460 is still good, if it doesn't run [upcoming game] you should SLI
Yeah I bought it last November, I don't really see the point in upgrading from the 460 since I'll be gone for a year and unable to use my PC from summer 2012 to summer 2013. There would be something much better and newer for the same price by that time.
Oh sorry I didn't notice you were also asking for better deals. What website are you buying from?
Verkkokauppa.com, one of the few decent places to buy hardware around here. Other places are usually way costier or located in a forest half a country away. It's in Finnish so you probably won't be able to operate it though, so just look up the parts I'm currently using and try to find something that's cheaper on USD at newegg or something, chances are it's cheaper here too
Urgh need to go, here's some cheaper RAM, there isn't much selection in mobos on that website, you might find a cheaper PSU http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/product/27673/cvsmg/Corsair-Vengeance-8-GB-Kit-PC3-12800-1600MHz
Thanks, I'll remember that RAM.
[Metro: Last Light]
Well, 2033 runs acceptably on very high dx9. Mainly thinking of BF3 I suppose.
No Jimm's PC store near you ? It's usually cheaper than Verkkokauppa.com and has better selection of hardware.
Jimm's is not cheaper in my experience, but I'll check their website anyway. [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] You were right and I was wrong, managed to squeeze out around 60€ from the price by looking around a Jimm's.
well, for cheaper a AMD CPU is the best solution £150 (180 Euro-ish) for a 6 core, 3.2 clocked to 3.6 for me :D
6 cores are pretty redundant right now, and in this case I'll rather stick with Intel. Besides, the I found the 2500k for 180€ at another retailer anyway.
