• Video card died?
    23 replies, posted
So, I have two 8800GT's in SLI, this was working fine, till a few days ago when my screen would turn black and my pc would freeze. Is one of them dead? Because if I put the DVI cables on the other card everything works fine.
That... shouldn't happen. Isn't SLi like CrossFire in that you can only use the outputs of the primary card? If so, there's something wrong with your SLi.
I turned SLI off.
try running the suspected dead card in the other slot [editline]03:16PM[/editline] on its own
Also this: [editline]10:03PM[/editline] It varies from -2 to 126
Remove the known good card and try to run the other card.
Remove the known good card and try to run the other card.
Doesn't work I can play games for like 10 minutes before it shuts himself down. Because it spikes.
Ok I can play games on the suspected broken card for like 10 minutes, then the temperature freaks out and my card shuts down because the sensor says the temp is 126.
Re-installed drivers?
Re-installed drivers?
Yes, deleted them of my computer and installed new ones, older ones and beta drivers.
And the other card works fine by itself?
Yes
Then the card is more than likely dead.
Then the card is more than likely dead.
Well I wouldn't call it dead but just broken.
Well I wouldn't call it dead but just broken.
Figure of speech. All mean same thing.

Also for those people who rate. How can you disagree with a question?
Does that actually work.
yup, just remember to take off the heatsink and everything first
yup, just remember to take off the heatsink and everything first
Well a lot of the time there is nothing to loose.
yup, just remember to take off the heatsink and everything first
What does putting a videocard into a oven fix?
melts all the solder and connectors back together.
melts all the solder and connectors back together.
Just don't put the oven on self clean. :smug: You don't want that gpu to be cleaned.
