And nothing changes whatsoever.
What is the point in arresting him? To try and show that they have control over pirating on the internet? Get a grip.
The world is almost achieved perfection first terrorism was defeated when Ben Laden is dead and now internet piracy has been shut down,Next is to ban video games so no one ever goes on a gun rampage
And they think that'll stop pirates...
ayup not whatsoever related to existing charges that he could've ducked like the other founders
This isnt about stopping piracy, its about arresting a man for starting a hub for hosting content that would be illegal to download.
To be fair the news dude says he was already sentenced and he just bailed the hearing AND the jail term.
And nothing changes whatsoever.

maybe because he's a criminal
He should've gone to the Ecuadorian embassy
And nothing changes whatsoever.

No, because he did something illegal and its their job to stop anybody who breaks the law. Not everybody has a bigger scheme you know.
This isnt about stopping piracy, its about arresting a man for starting a hub for hosting content that would be illegal to download.
The Pirate Bay doesn't host anything.
Since TPB uses a loophole by, you know, not actually hosting anything, what does the law use to justify arresting them since they're literally not doing anything wrong?
The Pirate Bay doesn't host anything.
and bookies don't hold any debts but they're illegal and for good reason
I mean they JUST willingly and knowingly enable the crime. You can easily find child pornography on TPB if you know what to search for. Just to check I did a search for a torrent I ran across back in 09. It's still there.

most likely? facilitating information trafficking

So you're suggesting to arrest the founders of google too?

how, pray tell, do you "run across" a torrent of child pornography
and why didn't you report it?
[editline]2nd September 2012[/editline]
So you're suggesting to arrest the founders of google too?
enabling criminal activities isn't google's primary function though. it might happen to do it, yeah, but nowhere near in comparison to the rest of use it gets.
Since TPB uses a loophole by, you know, not actually hosting anything, what does the law use to justify arresting them since they're literally not doing anything wrong?
Loophole? Oh. I thought it was illegal to just link to copyright infringing content, too. Guess that was SOPA.
It's only a one-year jail term? Doesn't seem too bad, I'd just take it
If you think TPB is a 'bad' site for linking to copyrighted/illegal torrents then you are an insane hypocrite for not thinking the same about google
huh?
how, pray tell, do you "run across" a torrent of child pornography

I was young and stupid and looking for normal pornography
Also I did report it. I went to the FBI's website and filed a report and the bastards didn't even call me back

Google actually tries to reduce piracy and promote legal content

i don't think they're a "bad" site, but anyone who tries to claim that piracy is morally justified is flat out silly, as is anyone who thinks that TPB doesn't criminally deserve to be taken down, lol.

What's the point in arresting anyone? To get them to pay for their crimes. You seem to mistake "law" for "intimidation"
the site's damn name indicates its very purpose. don't even try, lol.
This is a moral problem more than a legal one. It's obvious the site was made with the intent of enabling crime, but since they're not technically breaking the law, is it right to arrest him?
watch as he's extradited to america and executed for treason

dissonance in law versus practice really irks me

thats a tad dramatic

First of all, bookmakers are legal in every country around the world with the exception of the USA (minus the state of Nevada i think), Bookies have proven to be very profitable to the government when correctly controlled,
Since its legal in every country except the USA you can probably figure out who made the right choice.
Secondly the pirate bay doesn't allow and removes Child Porn ASAP

You can make a post about the CP here: https://forum.suprbay.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=29
I am a weekly member of this forum so i'll be waiting for your report on the 3 year old CP torrent (since you are trying so drasticly hard to get it removed like you said in your 3rd post).

Thirdly, Google doesn't promote/reduce anything, promoting/reducing anything would mean False Advertisement, and that is illegal and google got in trouble for that multiple times.
The only search results they influence are results in Yellow on the top and seperated on the Right clearly making the difference betwheen ADS and valid search results.
TLDR: You should stop shitting all over facepunch with your republican biased opinions.

You know I was really gonna reply to your post until I saw the last line
I was impressed how quickly you jumped from "I do not like your opinion" to labeling me in order to dehumanize me, though. That was fantastic.

you should probably learn about the internet before you make a big mistake like saying google doesn't bump off results

really grasping for straws here, eh?

Google only 'Bumps off results' because of the chance of legal troubles
TPB is heavily moderated for the same reason, copyrighted content has been able to be linked to for the longest time because of the law in the country it is hosted in, and the fact that it only links to that content

Extradited maybe, but there would be absolute outrage if execution was even considered

the term 'Pirate' doesn't necessarily mean someone that downloads CC, more often used as someone that uses the p2p bittorrent network
what difference would the fucking name mean to the site anyways, you don't see people punching faces on facepunch, now do you?
