I just bought a PS Vita, but I realised I don't really know many titles for it besides the big names like Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, Unravelled, and a handful of JRPGs and assorted titles.
What Vita games would you all consider to be the best on offer?
I believe Metal Gear 1 to MGS Peace Walker are all available on Vita. Some through the HD Collection, some through PSN. IIRC you have to buy MGS1 on PS3 and transfer it, though.
Persona 4 Golden is a must if you like JRPGs.
Tearaway is fantastic, I'd say it's a must get.
I highly recommend Dangan Ronpa 1+2, really good mystery games, the twist for 2 blew me away especially. Haven't played through Another episode yet so can't comment on that.
Murasama Rebirth is a fantastic action game.
Steins;Gate if you don't mind a VN, honestly one of my favourite VNs and the Vita port looks and works fantastically.
The HD collection for Metal Gear Solid are great ports.
Indie games like Hotline Miami and stuff you could look into, as well as PS1 or PSP classics that are in the store.

You can get MGS1 on the store, that's what I did. Also 4 isn't available obviously :v:

Oh right I forgot about 4 lol
I heard that MGS1 wasn't available directly for Vita because it hadn't been tested and thus wasn't supported (hence buying it on PS3 and transferring it). This was a long time ago, though, so maybe that's changed :v:
Moe Chronicle obviously.
Muramasa Rebirth
Persona 4 Golden
Gravity Rush
Freedom Wars
MGS HD Collection if you don't own it on the ps3 (it doesn't come with Peace Walker on the vita version for some fucking reason)
Soul Sacrifice
I heard Toukiden Kiwami is pretty good.
I don't have a vita, but...
Persona 4 golden is a good entry level RPG.
I've heard good things about Tearaway as well.
Gravity rush was great
Uncharted Golden Abyss is a must. I loved that game beyond belief.
Also Playstation All Stars is fun. I'd look at getting those 2 to really satisfy you.
Apart from the MGS HD Collection, I've had a good amount of fun with Frozen Synapse: Prime.
Thanks for that, guys.
I'm surprised to see Muramasa there, I knew it as an obscure Wii game, I never knew it got a port/update. That kind of art probably benefits a lot from the better screen.
Also, whatever PSP game you really enjoyed can be found and played on the Vita.
Dissidia Duodecim (Final Fantasy 3D combat game)
Godz Eater Burst (Reminds me that Godz Eater 2 is on Vita)
Blazblue (Again, a version is on Vita as well)

Wait what, the Vita is backwards compatible? This changes everything, excuse me while I go play Dissidia on it.
It's a shame Crisis Core has no digital release through PSN.

I have no idea how I missed that.

Yep! It can play PSP games. Of course... after you buy them on the PS Store.

Considering the natural advantages that the good old PSP scene provides I probably wouldn't buy many PSP games unless they were dirt cheap, but it would be nice to have a couple of favourites on the Vita.
Get Soul Sacrifice Delta instead of the original version. It's much better in every way.

I may have already bought Soul Sacrifice without realising Delta existed.
Whoops.

The word in the ps vita scene is that in short time a new release of an exploit that allows you to play PSP homebrews [sp]and isos but don't do that that's illegal[/sp] is going to happen. I just thought it might interest you as a vita owner.

I've tried familiar exploit on my vita previously in the past, and I must say that they all work nice and smooth for the most part. Main downside it that Sony tends to patch them very quickly.
If you like Muramasa Rebirth, get Dragons Crown, by the same people, and Odin Sphere, which came before those two, is coming to the vita next year I think.
Besides that, there are some PS1 classics you can get, I got RE1-3, Silent Hill and MGS1 for it.
There is some GTA games you can get (PSP ones), Ratchet and Clank Size Matters, MGS Peace Walker, MGS Portable Ops, (Portable Ops Plus is just standalone Online mode.) and some others.
I can't really say anything besides what's been said, if you like Ratchet and Clank you can try the Trilogy for the Vita, I have it but haven't played it yet, it is a bit buggy from what I heard, but playable. If you like Persona, there is Persona 1, Persona 2 Innocent Sin (No Eternal Punishment, EP being the sequel to IS) and Persona 3 Portable. If you want to see how well the vita can look, you can pick up Killzone Mercenary, it's also a good shooter.
Then there is the stuff that's been mentioned, Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, Danganronpa 1 + 2 (AE as well), Steins;Gate and so on.
If you played 999 for DS (It's not released anywhere in PAL region, so you might not have, but if you do want to then import it for DS, DS games are Region Free, not 3DS ones, or do it the other way, emulation..Don't ban me for that btw mods, kthx) then you can get it's sequel (Virtue's Last Reward) for Vita, assuming you don't already have it for 3DS.
You will have to try and find some games hidden in the vita library. When it comes to games, pretty much everywhere outside of Japan, is very low. As in non-Japanese games, so I hope you like JRPGs and Visual Novels....But like I said you can find PS1 games and PSP Games, also Indies which has been said. Indies are supporting the vita from the looks of it.
Now some advice for the console, since you are in Australia (like me), finding a lot of Vita games is extremely hard, JBHIFI and EBGames don't have many so you can either resort to digital or importing.
Now with Digital, you will need a big memory card, mine is a 64gig, which cost me a ton (110, Sony likes to overprice their own memory cards btw), but you might just need a 32gig, both are good sizes.
Then there is importing, importing is okay, it's great and safe, but if you want any DLC for any imported games, make sure the imported game is your region code (In this case PAL) so any games from Europe will work fine with DLC, but if you get a game from America, you can't use DLC...Unless you do this, get another Memory card and dedicate that to American games, it will give you a bit more games to find on the PS Store as well, mainly PSP and PS1 games (Such as Eternal Punishment), but you will have to switch them out all the time, and the cards are really small so it's easy to lose them.
This is what I do, if it has DLC and is Physical in Pal Region, get it imported (assuming it's digital in Australia, if not, don't import it, get it locally), if it doesn't have DLC and is not physical in Pal Region, just import it from America.
Hope that makes sense.
You will pretty much have to take DLC into consideration, even if you don't buy DLC, you might want to take it into consideration, otherwise you might end up buying the game twice.

Uh Dragon's Crown has been out for the vita for 2 years. I have it right next to me.
110? Christ, I thought 25 for 8gb was absurd. I guess I'll have to keep only a handful of games installed at a time. No wonder the Vita flopped like a pancake for ages.
I bought a physical copy of Soul Sacrifice with a note mentioning it was the American version and thus needs a US PSN account, so I have that sorted out. Importing is a big draw, there's a couple of Japanese games that I wanted to get. Thanks for writing that up though.

My local EB Games completely killed its Vita section, I had to buy from an independent retailer since I wanted to have at least one physical game to start with.

Do keep in mind that this was last year, and I think it was either off of Amazon, Ebay or Play Asia. By the way Play Asia is a good site to find vita games, they show all the regions you can buy the game in.
You will see what I mean if you go here.
http://www.play-asia.com/search/Memory+Card+32
Top of each product image is a country which shows you where it's from and what region.
Plus depending on which one you get, the cheaper it is. But still tho, DLC.
BTW, Memory Cards are Region Free, so feel free to take a look there as well, 32 GIG is still expensive but still big enough for digital games.

Oh and one last thing, you can either buy PS+ and backup your saves to the cloud, it is a monthly payment but you can get free games (selected ones) each month, and a discount for selected games. Or you can just backup the games entirely to the computer for free.
Vib-Ribbon is a really fun rhythm game. You won't be able to use custom music on the Vita version, but $6 for 6 songs is pretty good IMO.
It's $3.59 right now and you'd also get it for PS3 which does support custom music.
I haven't actually turned my Vita on in a long while...
Is there anything on the free section that's any good?
Senran Kagura
Tearaway is outstanding. You can find it for like $10 at Gamestop.

If you've got a decent Android smartphone, you can also just dump $20-30 into a Bluetooth controller and play them with PPSSPP.
If you like J/SRPG's Disgaea 4.
