I just saw a commercial for my ISP (Charter Communications) advertising that they upgraded everyone's service for free!
My 10mbps line has been upgraded to 16mbps!
5mbit customers have been upgraded to 8mbps, 10mbps to 16mbps, and 20mbps to 25mbps.
Charter Communications Inc. increased the speeds of three tiers of its high-speed Internet service — Charter Internet Express, Charter Internet Plus and Charter Internet Max — to customers free of charge.
The company said it boosted the download speed of its Charter Internet Express service from 5 Mbps (megabits per second) to 8 Mbps. The cable company also increased the Charter Internet Plus download speed from 10 Mbps to 16 Mbps, and improved the download speed of its Charter Internet Max service from 20 Mbps to 25 Mbps.
St. Louis-based Charter (OTC: CCMM.OB) is the fourth-largest U.S. cable operator in the United States.

cool
Holy crap this is awesome. Just got charter today. Did a speedtest earlier showed up at 86 meg I think there was something wrong.
[editline]09:33PM[/editline]
Also current speedtest that isne't screwed up.

I have the 8 meg service.
I remember a couple months ago Comcast doubled my connection speed for free. (US by the way)
I got the 20Mb service. I once got a report of 69down... charter really does suck with their upload speeds though.

It's kinda cool, all these new 'free internet upgrades' all around the world.
I was upgraded from 15/15 to 30/30, and getting 25/25 :iia:
Soon we might even get proper video-on-demand, and less nvidia 150mb drivers.
Woah. I've got the 10Mb/s DL and 1Mb/s upload...

meanwhile in Australia, i think they downgraded my internet
2 years ago it was 20mbps, then 10, then 9 and now:

I think this is in response to google's fiber optic service coming soon.
That's a load of shit. I'm on BT and I get just about 3Mb/s

Australia is like the worst first world country for a gamer to live.
Australia is like the worst first world country for a gamer to live.
Only for gamers? Huh.
Australia is like the worst first world country for a gamer to live.
Sir I see an 8 ping at that is mostly what a gamer needs is a ping and not speed.
coming soon to Google, Kansas!
Also I am lucky grandrapids right next to where I live is trying to convince google to bring it to the city.
Australia is like the worst first world country for a gamer to live.
Partially. Bandwidth is a huge pain in the ass, but if you get enough, gaming is fine. There are plenty of gaming servers based in Australia. My ping on TF2? constant 8-20, no spikes. New Zealand servers? 30 ping. American servers get me a 250, which is about average (When my American friend connects to an Australian server, he gets around 250 too)

Basically this. 80% of gaming servers i go on are like 30-40km away from my house.
Although, Australian internet is prohibiting me from buying Bad Company 2. It requires a 1mbps internet connection, which is about a constant 100kb/s? (i think) and i don't have the bandwidth for that.

Just upgraded to 8 meg internet from ATT's 1.5 meg. Life is good.
Charter still sucks. Their stability is horrible and my friend often gets lower bandwidth than promised.

Also in Australia:
Since signing up with my ISP (iiNet) ~3 years ago, my download quota has doubled from 60GB to 120GB for no extra cost.
At first the line kept dropping out but after it stabilised we got 5-6Mbps, although I noticed recently I'm only getting ~3.5Mbps max.
"Hey, let's filter the whole country's internet even though we get shit speeds as it is, but it's okay, you'll only have to wait until we get fibre straight to everyone's homes...in 10 years." :raise:

Way better than ATT.
Way better than ATT.
AT&T is actually one of the better ISPs out there, especially if you're running on one of the old Bellsouth servers.

Yeah they are reliable but there speeds are sooo slow. Also I am in the north. I mean I got great pings in games but 1.5 meg is just not enough.

meh, i'd rather go for more bandwidth and slower speed. (as long as it's not dial up speed, and fast enough for decent ping) Because any large downloads can be downloaded overnight.
Lucky. All that's here besides cable is ATT DSL. D:

Uh, isn't bandwidth speed...?
1) In computer networks, bandwidth is often used as a synonym for data transfer rate - the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second).

Nope bandwidth is how much you can download.
Nope bandwidth is how much you can download.
Bandwidth is the amount you can transfer over a certain time.
Holy shit
Bandwidth is the amount you can transfer over a certain time.
Yeah sorry and it is per month I forgot about uploads.
Way better than ATT.
I disagree. I use charter, and I prefered AT&T alot more. But charter offered me a better line for a decent (bundled) price. I was limited to only going to 3Mb or going to 20Mb.

AT&T is very stable, and by very stable.. i only had 1 day of downtime with them, and I had them as my ISP for about 6 years before switching.

You're NEVER promised bandwidth. Read the damn print. UP TO #Mb. Up to, doesn't mean Its always ##Mb.

Att was very stable just slow. Also charters bandwidth limit is 100 gigs.
Also Charter I have not had a problem yet but most problems are with the modems they give to people and I bought my own.
