How to make weapon skins on a Mac ?

I believe this belongs in the apple discussion board, but I'm not quite sure if it belongs in the technical support either. But here is my problem,
I love skins for all my weapons and tooling with them and their sounds on my beloveded Mac,
But I've always wanted to make my own models and skins . I do not have photoshop nor do I want it, I do have a paint program but I cannot open vtf. Files and so on to edit a skin .

-What program do i need to make a model?
-How can I skin a weapon?
