• Are "gaming" chairs worth while?

My current chair is 8 years old and should probably be quarantined and incinerated. I know with most tech "gaming" is mostly used to market shoddy products and I'm wondering if this extends to those chairs you see on most twitch streamers facecam.
I have a dxracer and like it a lot. The only thing i'd do different is get a slightly bigger one.
If they're comfortable, sure. Either way, desk chairs are expensive unless you get a shitty $50 Mainstays chair that breaks in half a year.
Gaming chairs are like what RGB lighting is to literally any piece of computer hardware. You can get a black mechanical keyboard for $100, or the exact same thing with RGB lighting for $130.
Gaming chairs are just overpriced out of having shitty branding
Look for a used steelcase chair at the closest government surplus.
dx racers are good if you are an average fper and spend your whole day/week/month/life in a chair, why not make it the best of the best. i have had the same dxracer for 3 years and there is nothing wrong with it, the leather? on the actual seat where your ass goes is starting to want to tear and fray but it's minimal. the price from any one those points is good enough to buy one edit: also how they are actually more comfortable and fix back problems isn't a gimmick, this chair has unfucked my back by itself, idk its just a chair but there you go
I sit in a wooden chair I had for decades. Does well besides the whole sweaty arse bit in the summer

A used steelcase leap or an aeron are pretty much the god-tier OP but "gamer" chairs are usually fine. You can often find promotions to get them cheaper too.
I just buy cheap office chairs with arm rests every few years.
I'd say no, as the branding is a significant chunk of the price. Get a Lay-Z-Boy instead. :v:
They're good chairs (DXRacers at least), although depending where you live you may be able to get a better office chair for cheaper (It really wasn't the case in Sweden). The best thing about gaming chairs is that they have lumbar support, and they also lean pretty far back, so if you're like me and like to lean back into your chair all the time, this will avoid the lower back pain that comes with that. You can also get them all black to make them not look as tacky.
I bought a Maxnomic chair a while ago. Build quality feels like a car seat but firmer. As mentioned they do recline and I find myself leaning back flat and sleeping in mine sometimes. The adjustable arm rests are nice too. Generally they've got some cool features that justify the price, mainly adjustability and quality that sets them apart from your workaday office supply shop stuff. I paid a lot for mine, but then I fully expect it to last me for ten years or more. It also looks really nice in my office. If you have the means, why not?
get an actual racing bucket-seat and turn it into a chair.
I got this fucker right here from IKEA. $199 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00103102/ Had it for 3 years, and it's still fully intact. It's comfy, doesn't kill my back, can be used for long periods of time and has all the bells and whistles you would expect from an office chair. The big selling point for me was the leather-covered armrests. Hardtop plastic armrests can fuck right off, my elbows need a soft surface to rest on.
After the last office chair I got for 100$ wound up going flat and was lopsided, I got a DxRacer myself. Everyone is right when they mention the price is in the "brand/name/gimmick" but the chairs are good if you don't really care for the price. I've had mine for 2 years and have no real complaints. It's really nice to recline in and play games with a controller. After about 1.6 years my right arm stopped working right (wouldn't stay up). I contacted their support and quickly got the part RMA'd with no real hassle. They were very polite and gave me a new set (left+right arms) with FedEx 3 day shipping.

Honestly "Gaming Chairs" is pretty much just brand name, they are comfy and all, plus they mostly come with more features than you'd expect from a normal computer chair. Normally I'd say no but I recently swapped out my falling to bits generic computer chair for this "gaming chair" and I love it, its nice to sit in, its comfy and very supportive, the armrests are nice and it reclines a little too good, feels like I'm in a single bed all the way down and leaning back on the 30 degree tilt and 150 degree recline. What I'm saying is don't bother unless you really want one, because you'll be mostly paying for the brand name than anything else.

If you are happy shopping offline, see if you can find one within your price range and that has features you would want/use. Comfort is obviously the most critical, since you can't really get that from essentially window shopping
imo it's not worth buying one unless it has a cupholder
Get an adjustable ergonomic chair. Your spine will thank you for it
Haha no. I stick with net-backing chairs for all my gaming needs due to sweaty backs during the summer. Gaming chairs get far too warm.
imo it's not worth buying one unless it has a cupholder
cupholder better not be embedded into the armrests like a folding chair that parents bring to youth soccer games else it's useless
They aren't for me. I cross my legs often when I sit and the gaming chair I had couldn't handle it, eventaully popped the lower screws off and bent/cracked the bars holding the armrests ending with them resting upside down on the floor.
Just go to a scrapyard, nab a car seat and make one yourself. [t]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/07/9e/9b/079e9b6d98b8a1414f060ea5d6ce1283.jpg[/t]
no armrests tho
Captain seat from a Dodge Caravan perhaps? [t]http://images.newcars.com/images/car-pictures/original/2012-Dodge-Grand-Caravan-Minivan-Van-SE-Front-wheel-Drive-Passenger-Van-Interior-Back-Seats.png[/t]
Not a gaming chair but I'm getting an Aeron at the end of the month, so pumped up and ready to sit [t]https://www.nok20.org/wp-content/uploads/s/s-aeron-chair-b.jpg[/t]
i use a couch as a chair and bed
no armrests tho
Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to make your own. Every gaming chair that I've had that wasn't ridiculously expensive was always made out of fucking terrible materials.
