I whole heartily agree with you, but recently since the developer preview came online, a couple people have asked around if their games would work on Windows 8, scared that if they install windows 8 that they might not be able to play them anymore, which is understandable since it is pre-beta software and many have not watched the keynote and read various articles on compatibility. So this is a non-conclusive quick-list for most people.

Minecraft, or Java, ain't working too well for some people including myself regardless of browser.
After some time, around half a minute the computer simply reboots.

Updated the list with a couple more such as Amnesia the Dark Descent, Synergy, and Plain Sight.

Plain Sight runs, with a little bit of fps lag. I did not get time to test it fully in case the menu could crash the game in other ways.

ArmA2 works in Windowed mode.

This is pointless, windows8 is only in dev version. there will be many changes before you use this as a actual OS.
Also I thought they dropped XNA support in W8, how does terraria work

Of course, this information is only as relevant as long as the Developer Preview is in use, and it's internal timebomb goes off around March 11~12th of 2012, so that is a couple months down the line before we will see a Beta out.

The information is relevant to anyone using it now, it wont be useful once beta comes out, but then again, I will request this thread locked when that happens since a lot of bugs will probably be hammered out by then.

Also, if you want information on Terraria, I suggest asking "HetsuProcyon" in the forums here, he is the one who confirmed that the game ran in Dev Preview, I have no personal experience with testing it.

I have been playing Call of Duty MW2 and Blops via Steam in Win8 without problems so far.

Skype craches on startup thought but i guess it doesn't fit in here.

I have Terraria and it started and i could play it atleast.

I had the same problem with skype. Just reinstall it from the one from the site. Works fine then.

The Skype shortcut on my desktop sometimes makes it crash on start-up, and when that happens, using the Start Home Screen Skype Shortcut makes it work. There doesn't seem to be a reason why this would be, it just does.

Anyway, is it safe to install Windows 8 on a non-virtualbox machine to test more demanding games?

I have used it as primary OS for almost a week now and been playing Minecraft and COD without craches.
The OS is pretty stable (it is build on W7 so it whould just be weird if it was buggy) but some features and support is a little messed up. But nothing huge.

I whould recoment installing on second partition if you are unsure!

Rusty hearts isn't compatible, it won't even start up because the stupid X-Trap anti-cheat service prevents it to due to windows 8 not being a supported OS.

Can't even try that out now.

Oh sorry. Flight Simulator X won't install, and it is not Steam. It might not be a problem with 8, but I don't know.
