Men are pigs
Men are pigs
Hey baby, how about I slip a trojan on my big dongle and fork your repo
That's what she said
I'd blow her whistle if you catch my drift sorry don't fire me
So she can dish it out but she can't take it: https://twitter.com/adriarichards/statuses/312265091791847425
The jokes made by the two guys in question about dongles and forking repos have nothing to do with women. She took offense to a joke that actually had nothing to do with her or her gender. She must be really insecure.
If a man makes sexual jokes he's sexistic, if a woman does the same she's emancipated. gg life.
If a man makes sexual jokes he's sexistic, if a woman does the same she's emancipated. gg life.
Welcome to the modern first world. Only men can be sexist and only whites can be racist.
So she can dish it out but she can't take it: https://twitter.com/adriarichards/statuses/312265091791847425
I feel sick whenever I see these people talking about men and their sexual organs like we're weak pieces of meat. Yes, we get it, we're men, we have extremities that women don't, but that doesn't mean you can objectify them (and us) publicly like that. Imagine if I was to suggest women inject their personal space with silicone, in order to achieve a "puffy vulva." How people get away with this blatant disregard for others is sickening.
It's fucking ridiculous that the man got fired for something entirely innocent just because 1 dumb bitch took offense.
So she can dish it out but she can't take it: https://twitter.com/adriarichards/statuses/312265091791847425
That is a little different. Its fine talking like that with someone you have a relationship with, and about each other.
I take offense at the fact that a person like this was anywhere near a developer conference - can she be fired from life?
Yeah the difference is that her joke was directly aimed at men.
That is a little different. Its fine talking like that with someone you have a relationship with, and about each other.
Except the two guys at the con weren't talking to her or about her. She simply overheard their conversation with each other, so it was NONE of her goddamn business. To quote the creators of South Park: "Either it's all okay, or none of it is"
Except the two guys at the con weren't talking to her or about her. She simply overheard their conversation with each other, so it was NONE of her goddamn business.
Context is always important. What was the original joke anyway?
I hope he gets his job back and she gets a straitjacket [editline]22nd March 2013[/editline]
Context is always important. What was the original joke anyway?
"While I did make a big dongle joke about a fictional piece of hardware that identified as male, no sexual jokes were made about forking," he wrote. "My friends and I had decided forking someone's repo is a new form of flattery (the highest form being implementation) and we were excited about one of the presenter's projects; a friend said 'I would fork that guys repo'.
That is a little different. Its fine talking like that with someone you have a relationship with, and about each other.
which the two men were doing what she did was eavesdrop on their conversation
Political correctness done very, very wrong.
That is a little different. She was listening in on the conversation. [editline]22nd March 2013[/editline] shit, didn't read the last couple posts.
The man who was fired worked at PlayHaven. Chief executive Andy Yang wrote in a blog post that a "thorough investigation" had been carried out before the decision was made to terminate his employment.
Oh yes, I am so sure they actually did an investigation and didn't just fire him in a reactionary manner to defend their identity from the screeching horde of people who get offended for other people
I think this age is possibly the most... aware of any other. As society has become more liberal, society has also become more active in the protecting of that liberalness. That's a good thing and a bad thing - calling someone out on bad behaviour can make people more aware of their words and deeds, but it also leads to situations like this when things that are perceived as a threat to the Zeitgeist are called out. I am of the view that there's a time and a place for all humour. Taking offence to something doesn't mean anything; it's an entirely subjective reaction. I think there needs to be malice behind a joke or a statement for it to be genuinely racist, sexist, ableist, any of the other pantheon of -ists we've identified. This joke clearly wasn't taken in the vein it was intended, and it's a shame people had to lose their jobs over a misunderstanding. If only this woman had said "actually I find that offensive" they could have said "I'm terribly sorry why don't you go and eavesdrop on a less offensive conversation" and everyone would have been better off.
A guy lost his job and has three children to support because some noesy bitch got the wrong idea and cried about it. Earth voted worst planet ever 0/10.
I take offense at the fact that a person like this was anywhere near a developer conference - can she be fired from life?
Yes, unfortunately the person that fired her would most likely be fired from freedom.
She makes all women in tech look bad. There is an article floating around written by another woman who's company has worked with her that goes out and straight up calls her out for how awful she is. https://amandablumwords.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/3/
