I don't have room for another desktop so I'm thinking about getting a laptop to play some games on. So far Ive looked around and the G73Jh seems to be the best laptop I can get for $900. Are there any better laptops out there or should I just go for this one?
Well what one are you getting specifically? Those are customizable.

I have a few $100 gift-cards that I can use to bring the price down.
I tried that out for a day. Amazingly powerful. Too bad that with so much power, comes such little battery life when off the charger. Managed to get 12-20mins at 100% on idle. If it's a desktop replacement, I say go for it. If you're going to carry it around, it's very heavy.
No, there's nothing at $900 that would come anywhere near to as good a laptop as that.
And why the fuck do all these websites have the same layout as Tigerdirect, CompUSA etc?

8 lbs is not heavy.
Well, maybe it's because I was really weak when I carried it.

If you click the "About Us" link at the bottom you will see they are all owned by the same company "Systemax"

After I use up those gift-cards I got for my birthday, the price should drop down to about $900.
And whats this about that laptop constantly "Grey screening"?
I would love one of those, because it looks awesome and well cooled, powerful for a gaming laptop. I would be careful about gift coupons, I don't think they'll let you spam them. Maybe one max.
Hell, buy me one and send it to Nireland while you are at it. I'll pay you $900 plus $100 shipping!

I'm pretty sure they're talking about green screen of death which is a problem with ATI drivers that causes embedded videos and stuff to go green and then it locks up.
The newer ATI drivers don't do it.

So I don't have to worry about this?

I was thinking about getting this for College as a main computer but since you guys mentioned it being mostly a desktop replacement i'm not I want to be taking notes with it :S
My cousin bought one he likes it but he only uses it for internet browsing and photoshop.
The only problems are some have the thermal paste applied pretty badly leading to overheats and if you type fast the keyboard doesn't recognize some key presses unless you disable the touchpad. I'm thinking of getting this laptop too, you should've known about these two problems if you researched enough, their pretty prevalent.
Holy shit 12-20 min battery life on IDLE? That's horrible, and I bet that heats up like a mofo.

Ive heard about the keyboard issues, I don't really use the touch pads on laptops anyways so that doesn't really seem like a problem. I haven't heard about the thermal paste thing though.
My friend bought one the first day they came out. He had some serious sound driver issues that occasionally caused the sound to lock up and play an extremely loud "white noise" over the speakers at max volume that couldn't be muted. Had to manually shut it down to stop it. It's the only reason he returned it, other than that, it was a powerhouse, the laptop would run anything he threw at it. Great laptop but was crippled by bad drivers. That was about 6 months ago.
I own the computer, using it right now. Yes, I actually did have a few problems with sound drivers, was an easy fix though, it shouldn't be a problem unless your computer illiterate. Besides that problem, Ive had none. Its been a real pleasure to have this computer. If your looking to play games on this, its a great choice for the price. I bought mine from Best Buy, a few downfalls from the manufactures version but I didn't want to spend 500 more dollars for a larger HDD. So yeah man, I recommend it.
BTW if you get it, don't update your GFX drivers, it could cause a striped screen of death in certain games, keep the manufactures GFX drivers. And whoever said 12-20 minutes for battery life, they obviously haven't had one of these, mine lasts me at least an 1-1.1/2 hours while watching 720p videos.

no that's exactly why people were getting the gray screen of death
I'm actually looking at the same laptop for college. I just moved into my dorm and I have a beast desktop.
Since they're going to pay for it, I figured I'd go with some power. Is this laptop suitable for everyday college uses plus heavy gaming when I'm elsewhere?

Yeah just don't be weak and then complain about carrying 8 lbs everywhere and be sure to close it when you're not using it, because like the guy before said, it'll only last around two hours.
This is xxFoxxx, by the way if anyone remembers me. :v: Someone stole my account.
And I was going to let you know that you can get the A1 model (1TB HDD & Blu-Ray, and I don't know if the X3 comes with it, but the A1 also has a backpack & mouse) here:

For just $50 more.

So the default Asus drivers are going to give me a striped screen?

probably, there's no point in staying on them anyway because they're old and there are newer, better drivers out

Do you know what drivers I should get?
