Alright, it's been awhile since I've worked on my desktop and I really don't know much about parts anymore. The purpose of the computer is for gaming. Just so the first posts in this thread aren't all "Why the fuck did you get a 980X for gaming," I have relatives who work for Intel and I got it cheaps. Here are my current specs: CPU: i7 980X OC to 4.0ghz Memory: 3x2GB @ 1600mhz Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-X58-USB3 LGA 1366 Graphics: Crossfired 5850s OC to 1000/1200 HDD: 2x1TB Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Power Supply: I think it's a 1000W Cooler Master Silent Pro Operating System: Windows 7 Anyway, I know my graphics cards have to go in the upgrade, but should my cpu/mobo also go for Sandry Bridge? My budget will hover around $1000.
With a machine like that, there's no point in upgrading anything but the GPUs, and possibly adding more RAM. With a grand, you could get a HD7970 or two HD7950s and some more RAM.

Planning on building it around May 12th once I receive my hard earned cash from DPS.
Nvidia already released their GTX680 flagship card (unless they plan a 690 somewhere down the line) and both the GX680 and HD7970 are about on par with each other. They both have tradeoffs, but I'd go with the HD7970 due to the incredible power management (able to sleep at 1W power draw.)

I'll keep those cards in mind and watch as the drivers develop to make my choice.
