You really need to download this, great game.
Best thing EA has done since Battlefield 1942.
We wanted to thank our fans who have supported us throughout the years by restoring Battlefield 1942 for a digital re-release and give everyone a chance to play the game that started it all."
Unless you're outside of the US in which case you can go fuck yourself. Edit: http://store.origin.com/store/eaemea/en_GB/html/pbPage.demos-en_GB Apparently you have to go to here to get it bizarrely.
is this some US/UK thing only? I can't seem to get it, it just gets me to the frontpage. [editline]5th November 2012[/editline] Oh wait it is. [editline]5th November 2012[/editline] Nevermind. Shacknews can't into links.
This is third free game I've gotten on Origin. And the last game I've bought from EA was BF2. So I'm happy to say I've never financially supported Origin!
This and BF2 were my favorite BF games. Also thread music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg0Tmydj29M
no 1080p support btw. only 1280x960 (max resolution)
EA has been for me: A very long road, nice to cruise on while the sun is hot and the sky is blue but after many many miles it deteriotates and small potholes can be seen while you try not to hit them while you still enjoy your drive. After a few hours it keeps getting worse and the sky is changing for the worse, turns getting sharper and you're now driving down hill. Bigger potholes can be seen and it seems they are unavoidable, you try your best to avoid them but there are too many which takes you for a bumpy ride. You start to worry about your wheels and suspension when you hit the biggest bump on the road making you lose control and sweat appears on your forhead despite keeping you cool. The road is getting steeper and you keep slowing down yet it seems you're going faster than ever, snow starts to fall and the sky is getting dark but you still keep on driving. "CRACK" You know that sounded bad but you can't stop now, you are determined to keep on driving even when you know you should stop soon and check the damage on your car. There's a big turn coming up, you can see it and step on the brake to slow you down even more. Suddenly you realise that your brake is not working and you take your foot of the gaspedal to make the motor slow you down before the turn, that doesn't work either. The wheels are losing more and more traction and starts to slide on the snowy fucked up road. You're completely unable to make the turn, your car hit the railing on the side of the road and flies off into the white air..
EDIT: NEVERMIND. The OP link worked for me in Canada; I just had to actually log in first. Thanks, Origin, for having informative error messages

What about the expansions? I still have the retail boxes and CD's....
So umm, how do I get it? I live in Finland and none of the links seem to work
So umm, how do I get it? I live in Finland and none of the links seem to work
Well EA said that it was for all PC users so it might be a bug.
Try http://www.origin.com/demos
Oh wow, just logged on my old Origin account and found out that I have Alice: Madness Returns and Dead Space 2 that I have no idea on how they got there
Wasn't PB support for 1942 dropped though? Gonna be a shaky ride.
This should fix that problem. [editline]5th November 2012[/editline] That seems like a bit of an overreaction.
Seriously. Would you use 'restoration' for the description of a game when it's just a straight port to digital? I know they did fine, but couldn't they at least provide resolution support or something that doesn't make it look like a bunch of pixels? I'm looking for the 'Windowed' option, but it's not there. And it appears to ignore all the settings I try to use in the config files.
I wish I could add my keys from the completely BF1942 collection.
I'd love to see DICE giving this game a modern upgrade (AA support) and such.
Maybe it's testing the waters to a 1942 squeal hmhmhm.
If links aren't working for you, just open Origin, go to Store and there go to Demos. BF1942 should be there. Also a big applause to EA for doing nice things lately.
Can you play the 2142 mod or will you have to buy it?
Ah, my favorite kind of marketing! Free games!
Install the Origin client and you'll find it in the "Demo" section of the store. Including outside US.
Maybe it's testing the waters to a 1942 squeal hmhmhm.
Within a week more people will be playing 1942 than BF3.
I loved this game. The maps had so much variety and things to do, and the only thing that kept you coming back for more was the amount of fun it was. I especially loved the pacific maps, where you could be the captain of huge ships like aircraft carriers and destroyers. Attacking ships with the torpedo-equipped planes and patrol boats was a blast too. I remember infiltrating the enemy aircraft carriers after my boat or plane went down by climbing the ropes on the side. So many fun memories
Maybe it's testing the waters to a 1942 squeal hmhmhm.
You mean a sequel? Battlefield 1944 would be awesome.
