• Recommended Power supply for running GTX460 Sli?

Recently I upgraded from to a GTX460 SLI Setup from a standard 1 card 460 setup. It was working fine for the first 3 or so days, until just today It took me hours to successfully boot up, I just kept continuously getting a startup BSOD. So finally after tinkering around, I decided to take out the extra card and just run a standalone card and everything seems to be running like normal. The Power Supply at the moment is a Corsair vx550w, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's not powerful enough to run my setup with SLI. I did a bit of research to find a handful of people saying a 750w is probably the best for a Sli setup, and a few people saying 650w. So should I be upgrading from the 550 to something with a little more umph? if so what should I look for? [release]Setup: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Quad Core 4gb Kingston RAM GTX460 Sli (atm standalone due to the issue) 1TB HDD Windows 7 Professional [/release] tl;dr Should I upgrade my power supply from 550w for a GTX460 Sli setup? And would a not so powerful PSU cause BSOD's on startup or just after startup? Cheers
You're right about the 550w not being enough, I can't really say which one to upgrade to because I'm not good at things like that, I'll let somebody else do it.
Well I didn't want to go too over the top price wise, but at the moment I'm looking at the Corsair TX-750V2. Which seems somewhat reasonable at $145 AUD.
Cannot go wrong with Corsair. 750w should be enough, if possible splurge for the 1000w :)
I recommend 650W for 2x460s for lower temps and longer life but unless you're running full on with stress testing you shouldn't be in trouble with a VX550 http://guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-460-sli-review/15 433 from the wall but they don't mention the PSU efficiency so I can't say what it actually is but it's definitely below 400W before you throw money at what's unlikely to be the problem at least troubleshoot, like try booting in safe mode to check if it's the drivers or it could just be a faulty card, try running each separately and see if you can any problems with either card
