This just seems like a huge money grab by ICANN to me. (a gTLD costs 300k or so). It's stupid for one company to get the entire .apple or .alfaromeo suffix. You're pretty much giving away millions of possible new website host names to one company. The current system where gtld's are given to independent organisations is much better, because everyone gets an equal chance at obtaining a domain name.
