• I need some advice to make gaming a little more fun

Hey guys. I am playing a lot of video games at my PC because my stepfather came to visit me! He brung me like 10 PC games or so. Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, SpellForce 2 Gold, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, lots and lots of them new games I haven't played. Maybe only a demo or two. Now the problem is - some games I play have lag. It is playable, but those laggy games I play are FPS/TPS games. I am using RivaTuner and clocked my settings by a small amount and I am also using IObit's Game Booster 2 + Advanced SystemCare and all it's programs. I need a few useful programs that could increase gaming performance WITHOUT messing with overclocking my PC parts. Well maybe it can overclock that's not a lot of overclocking to do and not close to dangerous amounts if it's a good program. Now I know using these programs can be unhealthy sometimes for my PC, but I don't really care a lot. I have a special 'program' that beeps when my computer tower's resources are overused or are at a dangerous level of overheating/overclocking. So bring me those programs. Also, please try to give me those programs who don't restrict a lot if I don't buy them. I don't waste money to programs that only give me a few bonuses.
Without overclocking, there isn't really all that much you can do besides lowering settings. Your computer's only going to run a game as fast as it can. Could you post your specs? Just so we can tell if it's a bunch of crap slowing down your computer or if it's just an old computer that has trouble with modern games.
Alrighty. 4 GB of RAM AMD ATHLON DUAL CORE 3.2 GHZ nVidia GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB (it isn't as weak as it looks) Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I can run Crysis at medium graphics on 1024x800 resolution. That's probably because my PC got upgraded a few months ago.
Get a 4850 if you can scrounge up 100 bucks, it would be many times better than what you have right now
Oh yes, I have 100 bucks. I'll see if I can buy it.
I would say that GPU is slowing you down alot.
Yep, get a better GPU as they said.
Definitely get a new graphics card.
Like I said, I will. I'll get 400$ at the end of September (in a few days) and I'll buy it since I have a lot of money to spare.
Use SpeedFan. You can set it to beep when specified components reach a certain temperature.
nVidia GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB (it isn't as weak as it looks)
Yes it is. I had that card like 10 years ago.
Do you have the AGP or PCI version. If you have AGP, it'll be hard to upgrade everything
Since he got a dual core, I doubt it's AGP. So far I remember the socket 939/AM2 boards(which support dual cores) all have PCI-E.
