-thanks for the support! I began with 2 PCs, then I got a third, and one got eliminated. I now have 2 PCs ready to fight to the death in the final round-
Acer Aspire 5551G.
The question if it can run L4D2 still stands.
Pretty sure that if it'll run Crysis, TF2 and CoD4 on all high, it'll run L4D2 just fine on high as well.
Pretty sure that if it'll run Crysis, TF2 and CoD4 on all high, it'll run L4D2 just fine on high as well.
Yeah, I kinda figured. But then I thought about how some games are better optimized then others. I mean, hypothetically I can run Crysis on a netbook - however it would require overclocking and upgrading the RAM - but it would work.
The second one will run MW2 on max at a decent resolution.
The second one will run MW2 on max at a decent resolution.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-5551G-Notebook.33227.0.html According to this it'll run, sure, on all high with highest resolution (1366x768), but I'll only get 18-20FPS. :saddowns: There's no test for the 5741G (The one with the i5 and GeForce-GT-320M), but there IS one for the graphics card it has: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-320M.25099.0.html.
Call of Duty 6 - Modern Warfare 2 High details: 22-47 fps, avg 31.8 fps -> playable
The guy who did the test on his PC had a Pentium Dual-Core T440, and again my computer illiteracy grabs control and I don't know if that's a good or a bad processor. And there is a video on YouTube I saw yesterday of a guy using the 5741G to play L4D2 on all high with what looked like no lag. However he had bought 2 extra gigs of built in RAM, so I asked wether it would make a difference without the extra 2 gigs, and it shouldn't. So I'm starting to lean more towards the 5741G.
Acer Aspire 5551G.
This man is correct.

But why would you do that on such a small screen?
So that things look less jagged? You're also not running it on max if AA isn't maxed.
the highest level aa rapes most computers.
So that things look less jagged? You're also not running it on max if AA isn't maxed.
I've lived without AA since I STARTED playing games. Sure, AA looks fine and all, but the jagged edges don't really bother me. And I think when people mean max settings, they usually mean those options that has "Low/Medium/High", not the AA options. Speedtests usually have AA off all the time.
Not same laptop, same GPU. I'm running it with with 2x AA, max is 4x, sorry. I mean almost max, then.
the highest level aa rapes most computers.
That wasn't the question. Of course it's going to rape most computers. But if it's not on, you're not running the game on "maxed," that's what the term maxed means. The highest possible settings. Jagged edges make me rage.
The previous thread died, and the bottom PC in this list was the one to win the poll. However I found a SECOND PC for the SAME price - but then my computer illiteracy kicks in and I don't know wether it's better or not. All I know is that the i5-processor is somewhat better, since it can use hyperthreading and become a quadcore. Sort of. So tell me - which one of these two PC's is the best one for gaming? The final result will be the PC I'm buying. I trust you, Facepunch. Acer Aspire 5741G Intel Core i5 450M Dual Core, 2,40GHz (W/ 2threads) 3 072MB RAM (3GB) DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M 1GB Dedicated memory Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset 3MB L2 CPU Cache Or: Acer Aspire 5551G AMD Phenom II Triple Core, 2.10GHz 4096MB RAM (4GB) DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1GB Dedicated memory AMD M880G Chipset 1.5MB CPU Cache Secondary info: I want to be able to run L4D2, on medium or low. High is okay too. That is my only requirement. I've found this one video of a Acer Aspire 5551G running Crysis Multiplayer on High settings, TF2 on all high, and CoD4MW on all high: The question if it can run L4D2 still stands.
Where are you buying from? I may get a 5551G as well...

Or that's atleast my experience. And the laptop will run L4D2 on max.
Not same laptop, same GPU. I'm running it with with 2x AA, max is 4x, sorry. Or does the processor and RAM have that much of an impact on the FPS after all? :raise: [editline]12:11PM[/editline]
Where are you buying from? I'm half swedish. The specs on my laptop is: i3 330m Some 4GB random DDR3 RAM running at 1033MHz 5650

Which iirc sets AA to max when you press that button.
I'm half swedish. The specs on my laptop is: i3 330m Some 4GB random DDR3 RAM running at 1033MHz 5650
Well the 5741G processor is better then yours, you have more RAM, and what is the last number? Graphics card?
Wow, 940 usd... Do they ship to America?
Wow, 940 usd... Do they ship to America?
It's 907 dollars. I don't know if they ship to America... I could call them and ask if they do on your behalf, heheh.
I can't even think of a game off the top of my head that has a "Max Settings" button besides Fallout 3. Which iirc sets AA to max when you press that button.
Most games have got a "High" button.

The bottom computer has a faster CPU and more ram but the top has better graphics. I'd go with the bottom.
The bottom computer has a faster CPU and more ram but the top has better graphics. I'd go with the bottom.
I wouldn't be so sure the GT 320M is better. Notebook check gives me this: (If there's no framerate in the box, it means they haven't tested the game on that setting/graphics card. They didn't test MW2 on the GT 320M, but they did on a slower card, therefor they can almost instanty say that this faster, better card can run it to, and make an estimate on what it can run. )
The Geforce GT 320(m) is a pretty low-end card.
Just found out on the PassMark forums that the AMD Phenom II X3 is almost identical to the i3-processor! http://www.passmark.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2662
Our charts show these CPUs to be scoring within 4% of each other (at the moment). The Notebook site list various benchmarks. Some in slightly favour of the N830, and some slightly in favour of the i3. Difference benchmarks have different dependences on RAM speed, RAM size, video card performance, bus speeds, motherboards, 32bit/64bit, etc.. So it can be normal that the results are different. They are very close CPUs. You should select on price, features and other criteria.
[editline]01:42PM[/editline] Remember I said I was leaning towards the 5741G? Well, I'm almost falling over the 5551G now.
Oh oops I meant to say the bottom has better graphics. Silly me.
