So I was toying around today with a lens from a DVD laser. I managed to attach it to my iPhone 4 and took a few shots and got to thinking. Why hasn't anyone built something like this into a case? So I decided I'd mock up a design of just that:

The lens would slide in and out of cover to avoid scratching, and allow the camera to take normal pictures when not in use. With the lens, photos like this can be achieved (tagged for size):

So what do you all think? Good idea or no?
you cant put a macro lens in fromt of a standard camera lens and expect it to work

Yes you can. In fact the guy posted an example in the fucking OP.

the example taken in the op was from a DSLR where you REMOVE the original lens and then attach the macro lens

No. It was a lens from the base of a DVD laser, that I used thin strips of tape to hold over the iPhone. The original lens is still on there.
my mistake
The concept is cool, but I've already seen something similar a while ago.
That's an awesome idea.
They had a macro case for the 3GS/3G I think, back then. Didn't fly as well as I thought it would, but good idea.
Oh, I found it. It's called Clarifi.

Similar case to the OP, too, just horizontal sliding instead of vertical.

Bah, of course it's been done. But at least my design works with the iPhone 4 I suppose.
There's also this

My friend said she was planning on getting one, not sure if she ever did or not
Copyright that shit NOW.
You should seriously copyright this. And sell it.
I'd love to copyright it. I just need to figure out how and get the money to do it.
Wouldn't you want to get a patent for that so no one else can use it?

Patents are such long processes though =/
I would buy that if you made it.
That's pretty cool, didn't know it was possible.

Owle Bubo, the same thing but with more stuff on it.
That's a pretty impressive picture coming from an iPhone
Watch in HD, of course. Shows what you can do with the whole video aspect of it:
