I loved GOW 1, 2 and 3. But judgement... oh god IT. WAS. SHIT! And I used to love Baird as a character :(
Maybe it's because people get tired of a formula and want variety? Nah.
Telling a story that doesn't need to be told and no one wanted told.
Gears of War 2 was good. 3 was kinda eh. Never tried Judgement.
Gears of War 1 was fun. Absolutely dreadful in single player but a blast of fun with a friend. Second one was pretty much the same but a bit better and with less bullshit moments. Third one was eh. As for the prequel, well it's a prequel. These are usually not good if all you want to do with them is just show off some secondary characters (who, protip, were only secondary characters for a reason) as the main good guys for once, and keep the rest exactly similar to whatever other game you're making a prequel of. As for god of war, it's pretty much a constant with the series. The main episodes are good, the spinoff episodes tend to be a bit more subpar and lack ambition. Not to mention the first two prequels were on PSP. After five games no wonder the series starts to get a bit winded.
Can't say I'm surprised, I mean GoW 2 pretty much perfected the formula and I just couldn't see where else they could go after it. I guess neither could Epic. v:v:v
Maybe sometime soon epic will look into making a new single player Unreal
Gears 1 was great and Gears 2 was fairly amazing, after that they really went downhill. The really neat campaigns got worse, the design and plot is just way overthetop and nonsensical. Even the coop sucks in Gears 3. At least Horde was decent enough. The series needs a drastic change.
